In daunting times, may we remember that being a woman doesn't make you weak. It is our superpower! May we remember of our inherent strength, fearlessness, and limitless potential. As we draw inspiration from the courage and resilience of women who have come before us and those who continue to blaze trails across various sectors of society and in different fields, we must also remember that the journey is far from over Many women and girls around the world still face significant barriers to realizing their full potential. From disparities in education and healthcare to underrepresentation in leadership roles and the workforce, these barriers continue to hold them back. Empowered women, empower women. In whatever capacity, let us all commit to the work that remains. Let us support policies that promote fairness and access to key resources, organizations that champion equality and equity, and programs that mentor young girls Here's to the power of being a woman, the courage to face the unknown, and to the unstoppable force we become when we unite for a common cause. HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY!

This! This is what our Women Talking Fire 2024 survey revealed from the responses of women working in the fire safety industry. If you think this doesn't still happen, please reconsider. Now how can each of us call it out and make things better?
"You think, 'Of course, I'm going to be treated as an equal because I've worked hard and here I am' - and you're not." This incredible speech from Miranda Sawyer in the 'Spice Girls: How Girl Power Changed Britain' Channel 4 documentary is so poignant and filled with absolute truths. It's hard to think that as generations of young girls and women go by, they haven't yet experienced true equality. We hope with a community approach and breaking societal barriers and systems that one day, we will be equal! 📢

Discover peer-reviewed insights and research trends with a JPH open access article, free to read and share! If you're interested in articles about Gender, Suffrage, Activism, Revisionist History, here's your opportunity to dive into such research with Sonia Palmieri, Elise Howard and Kerryn Baker's 'Reframing Suffrage Narratives: Pacific Women, Political Voice, and Collective Empowerment', https://buff.ly/3NzK9pZ. ABSTRACT: Dominant narratives of women’s suffrage have been shaped in ways that marginalize Pacific women’s experiences. Such narratives have emphasized the struggles of Global North women to achieve individualized political empowerment, primarily through the right to vote, from the late 19th century. By measures of struggle, individual empowerment and temporality, Pacific women have been characterized as passive recipients of the vote in the late 20th century. In this article, we contest these narratives through foregrounding Pacific women’s political contributions, and reconsidering how suffrage is defined in Global South contexts. By revisiting the Pacific women’s suffrage story and highlighting activism that mirrors and extends the strategies adopted by suffragists around the world to claim political voice, we put forward a more comprehensive picture of women’s franchise in the Pacific. In doing so, we uncover tensions between collective conceptualizations of political empowerment and the individual rights-centred approach favoured by dominant suffrage narratives. #Gender #Suffrage #Activism #RevisionistHistory #MissedInHistory #PacificHistory #PacificIslands #History #Publication #OpenAccessWeek2024 #OAWeek #LongRead #Publication #Community #ThrowBackThursday

Being a Researcher in International Education and Development has opened my eyes to so many societal ills that incapacitate women and undermine their capabilities. While I acknowledge the progress that has been made towards achieving equality, I believe that more still needs to be, and can be done to strengthen women's agency, i.e. their ability to pursue and achieve what they value.Strengthening women's agency will take collective effort, internationally, regionally, nationally and locally. It will take both men and women coming together to realise that equality means both men and women win. It will take boys and girls being taught to respect each other from a young age. It will take civil societies and local communities committing to the agenda of equality. It will take governments being intentional about empowering and supporting women. EVERYONE must be involved. If there will be any real change for women, we must all move from rhetoric to action, because our words mean nothing if our actions don't follow.Happy International Women's Day - Dr.JD

Today is International Day of the Girl. And below explains what this is about from the United Nations. We absolutely agree that girls have the right to a safe, educated and healthy life and look to promote this through our work at WLN. The International Day of the Girl focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights. Girls have the right to a safe, educated, and healthy life, not only during their formative years, but also as they mature into women. If effectively supported and educated, girls have the potential to change the world – both as the empowered girls of today and as tomorrow’s workers, entrepreneurs, mentors, household heads, political leaders, and mothers. An investment in realising the power of girls upholds their rights today and promises a more equitable and prosperous future, one in which half of humanity is an equal partner in solving the problems of climate change, political conflict, economic growth, disease prevention, and global sustainability. International Women's Day The United Nations has designated this year's [2024] International Women's Day as : Invest in Women: accelerate progress with a focus on addressing economic disempowerment while the campaign theme for this year is "Inspire Inclusion". Women have over the years done excellently well in virtually all facets of our sociey ranging from politics, engineering, medicine, and many more. Alot is being done to encourage more women and young girls to aspire to be more despite the prevailing economic instabilities and insecurities especiallyin Africa. More still needs to be done for the impact of these interventions to be felt. As a teens coach and girl child advocate, I am excited with this year's theme: Inspire inclusion! How? By creating opportunities for expression while creating visibility for the Girl child especially using Quality Education as a tool. Secondly, by creating platforms for interaction between young girls and Women who have made impact. This allows mentorship. I am proud to be Woman. Happy International Women's Day!!!

As we celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child in 2024, the theme, "Girls' Vision for the Future," reminds us of the immense potential that young girls possess to shape a better world. This year's theme encourages us to listen to the voices of girls everywhere and to acknowledge their dreams, ambitions, and innovative ideas for the future. Across the globe, girls are rising as leaders, activists, and change-makers. They are envisioning a future where equality, inclusion, and sustainability are no longer dreams but realities. From advocating for climate justice to challenging harmful gender norms, girls are showing the world that their insights are essential in tackling the most pressing global issues. Yet, despite these strides, girls continue to face barriers that limit their potential, including access to education, safety, and healthcare. It is crucial for governments, organizations, and communities to invest in the empowerment of girls by providing them with the resources, opportunities, and support needed to turn their vision into reality. By fostering environments where girls can thrive and dream boldly, we are not only building a better future for them but for all of society. Let this year's celebration serve as a call to action for everyone to champion the aspirations of girls, ensuring they have the power to lead and create the future they envision.
