Steven Bartlett talks leadsership behaviours…but underneath it’s really about boundaries. “As soon as expectations slip, you’re setting a new expectation”. Keeping boundaries with yourself and others is so important in progressing in the way you want to (and bringing people along with your vision as a leader). I see these things slip all the time in my coaching. In those moments it’s the job of a leader to remind themselves that noone is perfect, refocus on what they would like to be different and take actions to make that happen. #ExecutiveCoaching #Boundaries

What surprises you? I'm constantly surprised by how many people in business attend meetings without an agenda. (There is a question as to why I'm still surprised by this, but let's just say that I'm an optimist for now and happy to discuss over a cup of herbal tea!) The impact of attending a meeting without an agenda is that "the meeting" is never really concluded; people don't know why they're there or what the purpose is. Conversations can go around in circles, and people feel lost. People with the loudest voices or clear ideas direct the meeting instead of progressing towards a synergistic outcome. This can lead to people feeling undervalued and wasting time, effort, and money. Employees become disengaged and reactive. The business or organisation feels heavy and hard to work in. Employee turnover happens quicker than you'd like, and you tend to lose the most effective employees—or the ones who are effective stay but lose enthusiasm and eventually capability. Creating an effective agenda is another topic, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on attending meetings that don't have agendas: please share! P.S. See Steven Bartlett's post below for some other great leadership tips. #agenda #effectivemeetings #communication #employeeengagement

These 10 Realities are spot on. I can look back on successes and failures and see a direct correlation, both personally and with peers. Take time this week to honestly evaluate how you rate on each of these. Then ask 3 colleagues to rate you. Be curious and explore the Realities with different ratings.

Great 10 points! Leadership is about leading the people to grow as opposed to managing the tasks. You get the people you deserve so often we need to work on ourselves to raise our own standards before leading others. Great quote by Simon Sinek too Steven Bartlett A great visual by Chris Donnelly

I really enjoyed this post as a simple checklist for good leadership. Breaking down an idea of what makes a good leader into 10 points like this makes what can be quite a vague concept easy to understand, and makes it simpler to hold myself and other leaders accountable. It always amazes me time and again how much people and leadership are so crucial for effective delivery and how complex we are as humans. #leadership #psychologicalsafety

I’d be curious to know how many leaders were ever taught these leadership realities. I doubt very many. Even if I’d been told these at 23, I’m not sure I’d have paid much attention. Emotional intelligence and resilience is absolutely key and you build that from being put in challenging situations day after day and learning from them. THEN you can seek to be a great leader

A very important practice to follow. A manager is not there to make sure your doing your work, but they are there to support and guide you, to enable you to achieve.
