Did the world get more polarised this year or did the Overton Window (the boundaries of conversation topics acceptable to the mainstream population at any given time) just get wider? I prefer the latter explanation. We all live in echo chambers, bound and defined by our own belief systems, but if we are not open to engaging on topics of conversation outside our echo chamber, we have less chance of adding value to society's determination of what is and what is not acceptable. Responsible Business Intelligence (RBI) is about the responsible use of Business Intelligence (BI) and the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), to help us form more informed views of what is going on in the world beyond our own echo chambers. This week’s analysis comes from Lauren Branston and David Grayson and the team at the Institute of Business Ethics together with Yasmin Crowther and the Polecat team. Together they are reviewing the 2024 Ethical Business Landscape - leveraging PolecatX (https://lnkd.in/eA9sNnGA) to find the key milestones of 2024 that have shaped the external agenda. #ResponsibleBusinessIntelligence #RBI #ResponsibleAI #ResponsibleBusiness #BusinessEthics
The widening Overton Window suggests greater engagement with diverse perspectives, fostering richer dialogues and responsible decision-making.

2wHi James Lawn, I totally agree with your perspective on stepping out of echo chambers, as they often reinforce biases and blind spots in an ever-changing ethical landscape. Like sharing Christmas drinks with friends who insist Die Hard isn’t a Christmas movie, these moments of engaging with diverse viewpoints are how we grow :) Whether you’re team Yippee-ki-yay or team It’s a Wonderful Life, it’s the exchange of ideas that keeps the spirit bright. Cheers to 2025! Have a good one. James
