This event marks the grand finale of CIoD Nigeria’s activities for 2024—a transition year for the Institute, filled with remarkable strides and milestones.

NIGERIAN ROLE MODELS VOL 3
As a CEO, it's easy to get caught up in the noise and distractions of the day-to-day activities. But true leaders know that the key to success lies in focusing on what truly matters.
It's about prioritizing the goals and objectives that drive real progress, and eliminating the non-essential tasks that drain time and energy. By maintaining a laser-like focus on what matters most, leaders can create a sense of clarity and purpose that inspires their teams and drives results

Why Nigeria Needs Visionary Young Leadership
Nigeria is a nation of untapped potential, a land rich in resources and filled with talented, ambitious individuals. Yet, to unlock this potential, we need leadership that is innovative, dynamic, and deeply connected to the aspirations of the people. This is where the role of visionary young leaders becomes crucial.
With over 60% of our population under 25, Nigeria is a youthful nation. Who better to lead this young and vibrant majority than leaders who truly understand their challenges, dreams, and ambitions?
Here’s why young, visionary leadership is essential for Nigeria’s progress:
1. Fresh Ideas, Bold Solutions: Young leaders are not afraid to think differently and challenge the status quo. They bring innovative approaches to tackle complex issues like unemployment, education reform, and sustainable development.
2. Tech-Savvy Leadership: In a digital age, we need leaders who understand the power of technology to drive economic growth, improve governance, and foster transparency.
3. Energy and Passion: Youthful leaders have the drive and resilience to push through barriers and make lasting impacts.
4. Reconnecting Leadership to the People: Many Nigerians feel disconnected from traditional leadership. Young, visionary leaders can rebuild trust by prioritizing integrity, inclusivity, and service.
5. Inspiring the Next Generation: When young leaders succeed, they inspire millions to believe in their ability to make a difference, fostering a culture of active participation in nation-building.
Nigeria deserves leadership that dreams big, acts decisively, and puts the people first. The time for visionary young leaders is now. Together, we can redefine governance, restore hope, and build the Nigeria we all dream of.
Let’s take action today for a better tomorrow.

Last week, I had the privilege of speaking at the Leadership Media Group conference and awards held at Transcorp Hilton Abuja. The event celebrated leaders’ contributions to Nigeria’s growth and development.
I was invited to share insights before the presenting of the Young Person of the Year award, an individual who exemplified integrity by returning a large sum of money left behind by passengers. This honesty reiterated the importance of personal values and beliefs in decision-making, especially in challenging circumstances.
During my address, I drew parallels between living by fate and living by decision. While fate may seem like the easier path, it's our decisions that truly shape our lives.
The keynote speech by Kingsley Moghalu both sobering and thought-provoking, boldly challenging the presidency without reservation. I had the joy of witnessing Mr. Peter Obi receive the Politician of the Year award; reaffirming the value of authenticity in leadership.
Authenticity, as evident in Peter Obi's demeanour, is not a coat you put on and off; rather, we intentionally ingrain it into our character. In my brief interaction with him, I found him to be just as genuine in real life as he is on screen.
In reflecting on the speeches and awards at the conference, I'm reminded of a powerful quote from 'The Alchemist' which inspired my address: 'The world’s greatest lie is this: that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what’s happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate.' This resonates deeply with the theme of the event and reinforces the importance of taking control of our lives through our decisions rather than succumbing to the illusion of fate.

"People won't give you their hand if they don't see your heart " African proverb
Commitment in any form means getting actively involved in something, investing oneself personally in a cause, a project or an action.
It implies a real effort and a desire to make a positive contribution to something close to our hearts.
Commitment in a company and in an association (non for profit) have similarities but also major differences.
Corporate commitment is often motivated by financial incentives and employment benefits.
On the other hand, commitment in associations is based on intrinsic motivations; it is more focused on the association's cause or mission, and above all relies on the inspirational leadership of the leader.
Servanthood Leadership is often considered to be the highest level of Leadership because it involves directing an organisation without resorting to pressure or control.
Here, leadership is much more a question of legitimacy than legality.
Leaders must be able to win the support, trust and commitment of all stakeholders by communicating their vision effectively, by listening to the needs and expectations of their members, and by demonstrating empathy, humility and, above all, exemplarity.
It was within this context that Go Ahead Africa Ltd, via its founder Roland Kwemain, 2010 JCI World President, facilitated a training session for 150 Local Presidents of Junior Chamber International Africa and the Middle East as part of their 2024 LP Academy on the theme: "Motivation and Commitment: How to motivate Oneself and increase members commitment".
Just like association leaders, company directors can boost the commitment of their teams by using motivational levers other than remuneration, such as :
1. Intellectual stimulation
2. A pleasant social climate
3. Development Opportunities
4. Recognition
5. An Inspiring VMV
6. A strong sense of belonging
It is always a real pleasure to put our expertise at the service of the Development and Transformation of Human Capital and Organisations.

70% of the ten highest-paid CEOs in Nigeria are foreigners. Also, they lead the most valuable companies in Nigeria with the highest return on shareholders' investment. According to Business Insider and Payscale reports, 90% of these CEOs lead companies that are among 20 companies paying the highest salaries and best places to work in Nigeria.
I will repeat, Lagos business school and Daystar Leadership Academy are two strategic institutions for Nigerian Business Community. Until a large or mid-size company needs to hire a CEO, one might not understand under-investment in leadership development in Nigeria. Nigeria's biggest challenge is Leadership, not a lack of economic opportunity.
