The Politecnico di Milano is ranked 30th worldwide and 1st in Italy in the new Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR) 2025 launched by Times Higher Education (THE). The ranking measures universities’ contributions and commitment to interdisciplinary science, which is considered fundamental for tackling major global challenges and crucial in scientific advancement. This achievement represents not only a prestigious result, but also a starting point to further strengthen the role of the Politecnico as a global reference point in multidisciplinary research.

Nanyang Technological University Singapore has placed 9th in the first global assessment of interdisciplinary science, carried out by Times Higher Education. The Interdisciplinary Science Rankings is the first effort of its kind to measure universities’ contributions and commitment to interdisciplinary science. It includes 11 carefully calibrated performance indicators to assess institutions across three key areas, each representing a stage in the life cycle of research projects: inputs (funding); process (measures of success, facilities, administrative support and promotion); and outputs (publications, research quality and reputation). On the importance of interdisciplinary science, Dean of NTU College of Science, Professor Simon Redfern, says, “The solutions to so many of the global challenges that the world faces today depend on interdisciplinary approaches, and this is something that NTU excels in. It's my pleasure to participate via poster within the Third International Conference on Basic and Applied Sciences (ICBAS 2024). The theme of the conference was "Toward Green Science " as a highly need today. As researchers, we have to focus on green solutions to save our planet. According to this need, my poster presented the results from my PhD study which focused on supercapacitors as green energy sources. I got a very useful knowledge from the lectures I have attended. This award is a distinction given to the authors of what is judged to be the most qualified PhD work defended at any of the BUP participating universities. The winners receive a prize in the form of a diploma and support of up to a maximum of 1000€ for either attending a scientific conference or publishing in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. The BUP PhD Award is a way to support high-quality research promoting sustainable development in a Baltic Sea Region context. For the BUP PhD Award 2024 we accept theses defended in 2023 which are nominated by the supervisor/s of the thesis. The award is established in two research areas, one award for each: Natural Sciences, Technology and Engineering Social Sciences and Humanities A Scientific Committee is responsible for the selection process. The thesis will be assessed from the following criteria: originality, inter-/multi disciplinary approach, novelty, innovation, and value for promoting sustainable development in a Baltic Sea Region context. 💰 [Thesis funding] What do IntREE's IMACS master's programme and the Musée du Louvre have in common this year? A thesis, of course! 🎓 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐃 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬, 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞! 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧! 📨 🔎 Here's an overview of the theses funded by IntREE graduate school this year. 📆 The theses will start next October, and the teams and PhD students are looking forward to working together towards sustainable innovation! 💥 Some thesis might be co-funded 50% by IntREE.
