Today is National HIV Testing Day (#NHTD) and we want to let you know that you can get FREE HIV, Syphilis and hepatitis C testing at some Walgreens. This day is very important to use here at IWES because we've been working for over 20 years to reduce HIV stigma and expand access to HIV/STI testing, treatment, and care. By 📉 decreasing the rising rates of STIs, 📈 increasing the visibility and accessibility of services, and normalizing conversations about risk and prevention, we can all #EndTheEpidemic in our lifetimes. That takes knowing your status, so check and see if there's a Walgreens near you offering free testing today. No appointment is needed! and if you get tested, you'll get your results in 20 minutes or less. ❤️ 👉🏾👉🏾To see where you can access FREE and fast #HIV, STI, and hepatitis testing near you even after today, visit https://lnkd.in/gshf94TS. #PublishedToday 🌐 Imagine failing 1.3 million times in a year: Failure to ensure that everyone has access to prevention options to protect oneself from HIV acquisition, has resulted in at least 1.3 million new HIV infections in 2023. The pace of progress towards ending AIDS is out of step if we are to end AIDS by 2030. “I think one of the things that I am continually struck by is that with every innovation in biomedicine we tend to see it exacerbating inequity,” said Mitchell Warren, Executive Director of AVAC, who is also a part of organising committee of HIV Research For Prevention (HIV R4P) Conference of IAS - International AIDS Society. He shared the example of grossly inequitable and unjust rollout of COVID-19 vaccines. “We do not need any more examples of inequity, we need to flip the script,” rightly said the AVAC leader. “We need to do HIV prevention differently by showing as a global community that we can go beyond inequity”. “There can be NO EXCUSES, no delays, and no repeats of the failures of oral PrEP rollout. We must move with speed, scale, and equity to ensure lenacapavir has the impact we need to prevent new HIV infections,” said Warren. 🌐 Times Caribbean, Saint Kitts and Nevis https://lnkd.in/gCcYfTYd 🌐 CNS https://lnkd.in/g297zDp8 #HIV #AIDS #endAIDS #preventHIV #stopthespread #ACCESS #AccessBarriers #accessibility #AccessibilityMatters #Prevention #CombinationPrevention #PrEP #HIVR4P #Lima #Peru #Lenacapavir #cabotegravir #PreventionIsBetterThanCure #preventioniskey

According to data from the World Health Organization, 1.3 million people acquired HIV in 2022 [alone globally]. Since 2010, the number of people acquiring HIV has been reduced by 38%, from 2.1 million. 1.5 million children between 0-14 years old were living with HIV at the end of 2022, and 130000 children acquired HIV in 2022 [alone] globally. Though there has been significant progress in the reduction of HIV infection and HIV/AIDs related death now compared to 2 decades ago as a result of all the efforts made around world by government agencies, scientists and healthcare professionals; there is still more work to be done in making sure people are getting tested to know their status, getting linked to care if positive, and retaining in care to stay virologically suppressed or undetected. The goal is to prevent new HIV infections going forward. This is an all hands deck task from everyone whether you're living with HIV or not. Everyone has a role to play in the fight to end the HIV epidemic and stigma. #hiv #hivtesting #hivdata #knowyourstatus #prevention #medicine #nurse #doctor

📊 New MMWR data suggest that distributing HIV self-tests by mail is an effective way to reach those who have never been tested or are not testing as often as recommended. 🌍📬 HIV testing is vital for prevention and treatment, leading to a 12% drop in infections from 2018 to 2022. However, access disparities remain. To address this, the CDC-funded Emory University and its partners, Building Healthy Online Communities (BHOC), OraSure Technologies, Signal Group, and NASTAD, launched the Together TakeMeHome (#TTMH) program, distributing 443,813 HIV self-tests by mail over the past year. Targeting key groups disproportionately affected by HIV, TTMH reached 219,360 individuals, with 68% from priority audiences, 24% who had never tested before, and 25% who hadn’t tested in the past year. This initiative highlights the effectiveness of mail-based self-testing. Read the full MMWR report here: https://lnkd.in/gFkZvhkn #NHTD #HIVTesting #PublicHealth

'HIV isn't a death sentence. Lifelong medication can reduce the virus to undetectable levels.' This #WorldAIDSDay, meet Lead Nurse for HIV testing at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, Lucy. 👋 Lucy works in the national blood borne virus testing programme, which has detected thousands of cases of HIV and Hepatitis B and C nationwide. Opt-out testing in Emergency Departments helps identify those who may not know they are living with blood borne diseases, including HIV. ‘A common misconception is that being HIV positive means impending death. I’m able to dispel this and many other myths and share how people living with HIV can go on to live long and healthy lives.’ NHS England is committed to achieving zero HIV transmissions by 2030 and also eradicating Hepatitis C by the same year. This is only possible thanks to the efforts from staff like Lucy, with opt-out testing meaning that patients can be referred for lifesaving treatment at the earliest possible stage. Testing for HIV is quicker and easier than ever and is provided to anyone free of charge on the NHS. https://lnkd.in/gVkMbEM

Yesterday was World AIDS Day, a time to reflect on the progress made and the work still needed to combat HIV/AIDS. HIV/AIDS remains a global challenge, but education, prevention, and treatment advancements give us hope for a healthier future. Here's what you need to know: 📊 The Current Landscape: ▪️ Over 38 million people worldwide live with HIV, but many are unaware of their status. ▪️ Advances in treatment, like antiretroviral therapy (ART), make HIV a manageable condition when detected early. 🛡️ Prevention Matters: ▪️PrEP & PEP: Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) reduces HIV risk by up to 99% when taken as prescribed. Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) can prevent infection if started within 72 hours. ▪️Testing is Key: Regular HIV testing is essential for early detection and prevention of transmission. 🤝 Combatting Stigma: ▪️Educating communities and dispelling myths about HIV transmission can save lives. ▪️Support those living with HIV by fostering acceptance and empathy. 📚 Ongoing Education: ▪️ Keep informed about new treatment options like long-acting injectable ART and other advancements in care. Every action counts in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Together, we can make a difference in creating a future free from stigma and illness. #WorldAIDSDay #HIVAwareness #Healthcare #Healthequity #Medicalincs

Today is National HIV Testing Day (NHTD). In the United States, there are nearly 1.1 million people who live with HIV, and almost one in five do not know that they are infected. Getting the test is the first step to find out if you have HIV. The Centers for Disease Control recommends anyone between the ages of 13 and 64 receive an HIV test as part of a routine physical. For those who are sexually active, the CDC recommends testing once per year and sometimes more frequently, depending on risk factors. The theme for 2024, “Level up your self-love: check your status,” emphasizes valuing yourself, showing yourself compassion and respect, and honoring your health needs with self-love. Knowing your HIV status helps you choose options to stay healthy. HIV is a completely treatable disease with effective treatment options, if it's detected early. To schedule an appointment for testing, call us at 203.562.5181 or visit the Gynecology Services page at our website: https://bit.ly/4c1nX2q. #CTCoastalOBGYN #HIVTestingDay

💡Early HIV Diagnosis Can Save Lives 💡 Did you know that HIV, when diagnosed and treated early, doesn’t have to be life-threatening? With timely testing and proper treatment, people living with HIV can lead long, healthy, and fulfilling lives. ⁉️Why early testing matters: 🩺 Early diagnosis ensures access to antiretroviral therapy (ART), which reduces the HIV viral load to undetectable levels. When the virus is undetectable, it cannot be transmitted to others. A lack of awareness about HIV transmission puts everyone at risk. Knowing the four main routes of transmission—unprotected sex, mother-to-child transmission, contaminated blood transfusion, and shared injection equipment—can help you avoid the infection and puts you in control. 👉Learn why awareness is power when it comes to HIV. #HIVAwareness #ART #HealthForAll #StopTheStigma #WAD #AIDS
