FROM THE CURRENT ISSUE: "The nuclear energy landscape in the United States is changing rapidly as demand for clean firm power rises and the nation strives to meet its climate goals. Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act, the domestic nuclear industry is leveraging federal funding, loan authority and new tax incentives to extend reactor operations, increase capacity and restart our retired reactors." Nuclear for all nations. they should teach their people to understand and enjoy the benefits for 80 years. Nuclear should not be used as a means of incrreasing inequality through vast debt for intellectual property. But if they dont understand, it would be unsafe.
“Nuclear’s Make or Break Moment” Important CNBC coverage. My take: The passage of ADVANCE Act through Congress by a 481-15 vote signals a new chapter for American nuclear. While nuclear construction projects are challenging to initiate, we must listen to the energy communities, state legislators, environmental activists and engineering professionals about the urgency of this window. Over the 80+ year useful life of these new reactors, nuclear energy emerges as the least expensive and most reliable source of clean power available. By investing in large light water reactors today, we can secure our energy future and unlock the momentum needed to scale American nuclear efforts with our allies around the world. It’s time to build. Yes, large construction projects are hard. Thankfully, nuclear fission is simple. America can create a sustainable and prosperous future, while guarding our grid and securing our legacy.

"there will be power, we will always figure out the ways to do it" The new nuclear power plant has been open in the US and there are plans to reactive old nuclear plants too. This is an important news for the conversation about power concerns for the growing number of data centers and energy used by AI. #nuclearpowerplant #datacenterpower

In the US, only 3 nuclear reactor plants have been built and become operational in the last 30 years (Watt Bar 2, Vogtle 3, and Vogtle 4). How can we increase grid stability? Return the decommissioned nuclear reactor plants to an operational status which is probable and/or build new nuclear reactor plants which is hopeful ☢️

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is responsible for the licensing and oversight of civilian use of nuclear materials (including the generation of #NuclearEnergy). The Agency is vitally important to the continued, safe operation of the existing fleet of nuclear power plants, recommissioning of shuttered plants, and licensing and deployment of new nuclear technologies. Many of its dedicated, highly-trained staff of technical experts are deeply committed to their public service mission and eager to enable these technologies for the benefit of society. To that end, the Accelerating Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Nuclear for Clean Energy (ADVANCE) Act of 2024 includes a provision to update the NRC's mission statement. Why do this? Because "mission" is the NRC's north star. It shapes organizational culture, influences regulatory policies and practices, and drives regulatory decision-making. Congress and the Biden Administration seek to foster a broader awareness of the NRC's purpose: to enable the safe, efficient deployment of nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes that improve the general welfare while assuring public health and safety. What better way to do this than through the mission? On October 23, 2024, the NRC's General Counsel provided options for an updated mission statement to the Commission. Here is my take on those options as a weather vane for regulatory modernization. The piece includes alternatives that better align with the spirit and intent of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, Energy Reorganization Act of 1974, and the ADVANCE Act of 2024.

Yesterday, in a bipartisan vote, the Senate passed the ADVANCE Act. Jacqueline Toth, our Managing Director, reacted: "For communities that want them, nuclear power plants are a powerhouse of local economic activity. Congress sent to President Biden's desk a bill that will help more communities access nuclear energy by strengthening the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's staffing and spending; enabling the use of accident-tolerant fuels; and supporting the licensing of new reactor designs, including coal-to-nuclear projects."
