So the Ongoing trend of suggesting "Long Diwali Leave to be declared in India Offices in line with Western Culture of Christmas / Thanksgiving Holidays" - This goes directly against India's Diverse & Rich Culture!! Rather, employees should be encouraged to take leaves for their respective religious beliefs - in a sense - organization culture should be such that employees feel good (& not dreaded) about taking time offs to celebrate their festivals with families - be it Diwali, Pujo / Navratri, Chrismtas, Onam, Pongal, Bihu, Eid, Janmashtmi, Holi, Lohri / Sankranti, Rakhi.. it can be any festival which is celebrated in India's any region. The time off can be spent at home / outside home / any way it is liked to be spent - bottomline is employee should feel happy about it rather than organisation imposing the long off. As a child, I often wondered why we recite the #Ramayana as a play each year, followed by the celebrations of #Dussehra and then #Diwali in such a grand manner. It felt like a tradition steeped in meaning, yet I couldn't quite grasp its significance. Curious, I turned to my paternal grandfather, a guiding force in my life. He had a unique way of explaining things that went beyond the typical responses parents often gave back in the '80s—"It just works like this," they’d say. My grandfather took the time to share his wisdom with me. He explained that life can easily consume us with daily struggles, causing us to lose sight of the bigger picture. We need these timeless stories to inspire us and remind us of what’s possible. Through the tales of resilience in the Ramayana, we see characters who faced overwhelming odds, yet demonstrated courage, selflessness, and the ability to rise after failures. They teach us that no matter how difficult the path may be, perseverance and a commitment to the greater good can lead to triumph. This profound lesson shaped my perspective and motivated me to seek inspiration in the stories of others. They fuel my journey, reminding me that every setback can be a stepping stone toward success. In our business, we navigate high levels of pressure and learn from every challenge we face. It’s not easy, but we draw strength from these narratives. Let's be real—how many times have you sat through forced celebrations, the same old lights and sweets, all while pretending to be "in the spirit" when all you wanted was to get back to your desk? We didn’t want to do it this year. A Diwali party seemed like just another task on the already endless to-do list. Why go through all the trouble? But then something shifted. Some team members mentioned how they’d be away from family this Diwali. Suddenly, skipping the celebration altogether felt... a bit sad. That’s when the idea came up to celebrate at the factory instead of the office. We were skeptical. Would anyone even show up? Would it be worth the effort? To our surprise, over 150 people gathered, bringing the place to life with laughter, music, and warmth.
