🙌 Community News: the City of Austin held a press conference yesterday to announce new funding for The Downtown Austin Community Court (DACC) to expand access to mental health and substance abuse programs! DACC strives to break down barriers for people to access court, housing, and social services. Integral Care Practice Administrator Julie Guirguis represented Integral Care at the event. In her remarks, she expressed gratitude for the City’s leadership and prioritization of access to mental health services for our community. Exposure to domestic violence can have long-lasting effects on a child’s brain development, including behavioral issues, learning disabilities, and physical and mental health conditions. However, these issues can be reduced through trauma-informed care. At Discovery House, staff are Brain Story Certified through the Palix Foundation, Alberta Family Wellness Initiative. They also receive regular training on trauma-informed practice so that we can better help children and youth heal and work through their trauma. This is critical in helping prevent the cycle of domestic violence from repeating. A great listen to understand the harrowing journey of severe mental illness and why we need to reform how we talk about it, the policies that govern care for it and the system which is currently running off the rails in an attempt to overcome so many barriers (created with good intentions, but having severe consequences for the sick and their loved ones!) #mentalhealthreform #mentalhealthcare #stopnlisten
Have you heard of the National Shattering Silence Coalition? In our conversation, Laura Craciun highlighted the critical need for advocacy in mental health reform, especially for those with serious mental illness (SMI). She shared her personal journey navigating the challenges her son faces with schizoaffective disorder, emphasizing the importance of organizations like NSSC in providing proactive support. NSSC doesn't just offer advice and care during crises—they actively collaborate with legal professionals and policymakers to advocate for systemic reforms. Laura's story underscores the impact of their work in ensuring that families like hers have a voice in shaping mental health policies. If you would like to dive deeper into our conversation to learn about Laura's advocacy journey and the reforms she's championing, check out our past conversation! https://lnkd.in/gMQBxqv6 #MentalHealth #MentalHealthAdvocacy #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealthMatters #WellnessJourney #PublicHealth #PolicyReform #AdvocacyWork

The MN Mental Health provider community, and the low income families and kids and individuals with disabilities that we serve — NEED YOUR HELP and your voice on this important topic! Today, we are joining the MN National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and other groups to make a push to call state leaders urging them to fix the upcoming rate cut and provide the much needed funding for mental health providers to do their work. 2 minutes of your time can make a world of difference! Please call: 1. MN Governor Tim Walz: 651-201-3400 2. Majority Leader Erin Murphy: 651-296-5931 3. Speaker Melissa Hortman: 651-296-4280 Message: We cannot wait to address the mental health crisis in Minnesota. We need you to raise the Health and Human Services budget target and fix the critical access rate cut this session. ✔️share your perspective as someone who works in behavioral health and to why this is important. ✔️share your perspective as someone who has been impacted by mental illness on why this is important. ✔️share your perspective as someone who cares about the health of our community and knows that cutting behavioral health care funding can lead to children and families are on months-long waitlists for services, people boarding in hospitals or languishing in jail. Providers are closing and Minnesotans are at the losing end of this lack of action by our leaders. Please share this with your networks and encourage others to contact leaders too. #MentalHealthAwareness #SuicidePrevention #MentalHealthAccess

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month! In 2008, the U.S. House of Representatives first designated the observance as “Bebe Moore National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month” in honor of the African American novelist’s groundbreaking work to change the way we approach mental health in underserved communities. Today, racial and ethnic minorities continue to face barriers to mental health care, including cultural stigma, lack of access to culturally competent care, and systemic inequalities. These challenges can exacerbate mental health issues, making awareness, education, and advocacy all the more crucial. The #DCGTeam develops mental health outreach campaigns that do just that on behalf of our federal government clients. Join us in raising awareness about mental health equity and inclusivity.
