The holiday was established by the American Hospital Association to shine a spotlight on our many hospitals, health systems, and health care workers who strive to save lives daily. WHY NATIONAL HOSPITAL WEEK IS IMPORTANT 💙 To show appreciation This week is celebrated to show that we are grateful for the work of healthcare providers and hospitals. A simple word of thanks goes a long way. 💙 Healthcare providers save lives Healthcare is one of the most important professions in the world because they help preserve human life. Their contributions must be recognized. 💙 To spread positivity Sending thank-you notes and showing support helps spread positive energy. It shows that we are empathetic and care about other people’s contributions. HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL HOSPITAL WEEK ❤️ Write a note of appreciation Receiving a handwritten note of appreciation can add that little personal touch. You can write a note to a specific health care provider or send a card to an entire department at the hospital. ❤️ Spread awareness Make sure the people around you are aware of this week and use this opportunity to appreciate the hospitals near them. ❤️ Volunteer Small local hospitals are constantly understaffed and might need your help. This week members of the Moving Forward Coalition traveled across the country to share about the Coalition’s efforts to improve the way nursing homes address #WhatMattersMost to residents. On Wednesday, Laci Cornelison and Tonya Roberts presented at the Center for Innovation: The Green House Project and Pioneer Network (CFI) Conference in #GrandRapids. Then, on Friday, they were joined by Tara McMullen, Ph.D., MPH, FGSA, Gregory L. Alexander, and Tetyana Pylypiv Shippee for a presentation at the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) Annual Scientific Meeting in #Seattle. Back in Kansas, Laci is working with her team at the Kansas State University Center on Aging to test “A Guide to Addressing Resident Goals, Preferences and Priorities.” The team recently finished recruiting its first six pilot partners and is currently collecting pre-pilot baseline data about their current practices in addressing residents’ goals. Tetyana and Tonya are working with students to finish an article documenting the literature review that kickstarted the development of the Guide—identifying 40 tools available to nursing homes to ask residents about their goals.
