Acceptance testing is also known as User Acceptance Testing (UAT). It is the final phase of testing before the software is released to the customer or end-users. The purpose of this testing is to ensure that the software meets the business requirements and that the end-user finds the system acceptable for real-world use. Other forms of acceptance testing include: Alpha Testing – Performed by internal staff at the developer’s site. Beta Testing – Performed by end-users in a real environment before the final release. So, the most common synonym for acceptance testing is User Acceptance Testing (UAT).

The purpose of this test is to evaluate the system’s compliance with the business requirements Here, Acceptance basically two types, 1) Internal Acceptance Testing (Alpha Testing): It is conducted by members of the development organization who are not directly involved in the project, Usually, it is the members of Product Management, Sales and/or Customer Support people. 2) External Acceptance Testing / User Acceptance Testing (Beta Testing) is conducted by the end users of the software. Note: Acceptance Testing environment and System Testing environment almost all same, but Unit Test Environment and integration Test environment are different.

An interesting post by Vikas Mittal on behalf of GTEN, on what he phrases as "Manual Automation", and addresses this as a problem. In my work, I talk about **Partial Automation** and not as a problem but as a good thing. So, does my concept negate his? No, they are complementary. Here's how: - When I talk about automation, I stress on automation in testing, rather than just test automation. This thought dates back to 2004. - I encourage: **Start Small. Start Somewhere. Start Now/Today**, when it comes to solving problems, automation in testing is no exception. This is the basis for my 5E series of mental models. - The above thought is the basis of partial automation, which also considers the evaluation of automatability, cost, time, reward etc. - What Vikas addresses is the question "When?". After we have started, where do we stop? Where are we stuck? If the factors are in favour of further automation, is a mind block, lack of skills, motivation etc stopping us? That's my interpretation of how his post aligns with my own thought process, although at the surface they appear to be opposing thoughts. Automating logging of a bug ================== I would say defect logging post automation run (after investigating and confirming a failure as real product bug) - SHOULD remain manual. Logging a bug in right way for business to decide whether to fix or not AND developer to easily reproducing - requires human analysis and judgement. Please do not rush to automate this part.
