Another charity close to our hearts is Nottingham-based Bags of Blessings who were desperately seeking toiletries, toys and gifts this Christmas, so we were delighted we could support them with this little haul #WorldKindnessDay

It was great to be back at the Chartered Institute of Fundraising's Convention at the Queen Elizabeth Centre this week. There were so many inspirational sessions about how charity fundraisers are striving and innovating to raise vital funds for their charities. A few highlights included: 💵 A panel discussion on navigating the cost of living crisis chaired by Rob Cope MInstF(Dip). In summary: greater demand for charity services x decreasing donations x budget gaps = an incredibly challenging fundraising landscape! 🕵♀️ A really helpful and practical session on how to conduct donor due diligence and create a gift acceptance policy. Key tips included taking a consistent approach to all major donors and developing research checklists and report templates to speed up the process. ✉ A talk on how to deal with 'shrinking databases' and maximise the number of supporters a charity can contact. Some charities have tried to combat this issue by moving a way from a consent based model for direct marketing and using legitimate interest where possible. I'm already looking forward to next year's Convention! #FundraisingFridays

Whatever one’s views generally on this situation, it highlights one common point in charity ventures. At the concept stage of a project, one needs to consider the appropriate legal platform for that. If a charity is the correct route, great. But it then brings with it a regulatory framework and public expectation. And at the intersection of those two things is ‘private benefit’. That needs care. And that can even strike at well-meaning and objectively justifiable things like being paid for hours and hours of effort. These issues need to be carefully considered right at the outset. This case illustrates the point. And no-one can feel good about that. https://lnkd.in/e9GZegc9

These calls really do make a difference to the children who call us. What we ask of the team at Briggs Equipment UK, is that you vote for the NSPCC to be your charity of the year, resulting in you leaving a legacy for children in the UK. T H I N K S M A L L 24—28 June is the UK’s biggest celebration of small charities. It’s a chance for small charities just like us to raise awareness of the essential role we play in our communities and to celebrate the incredible donors and volunteers that make our work possible. Nottingham has a fantastic network of small charities; supporting our residents and their families it so many ways. It's hard to imagine a world without these charities who provide so much practical and emotional support to people of all ages. Unfortunately we have seen some doors close recently due to a significant reduction in available funding coupled with rising costs but also rising demand. Its vital to keep raising the profile of our work and highlighting our impact to secure our future. Small Charity Week is an annual campaign to celebrate and support the value that small charities add to communities. Small charities make up 96% of the voluntary sector in the UK and hold many communities together – providing food, safety, shelter, mental health support, and financial assistance and advice. This year the campaign seeks to highlight the transformative role that small charities can play in partnership with government to strengthen local communities. 📈 Demand for Charity services is growing, is your organisation prepared? Fundraising.co.uk recently reported on the rising pressures faced by UK charities, with over half seeing a significant surge in demand for their services. The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) found that 86% of charities reported increased demand this past year, especially those focused on poverty relief and human rights. It's important that charities have the right protections in place. Trustee Indemnity Insurance can be a valuable safeguard as charities navigate these challenges.
