Congratulations to those of you who are just wrapping up another busy season!! This tends to be the time of year for accounting firms to host "after busy season" parties. Maybe you have one coming soon? The end of busy season is definitely something worth celebrating! But how much celebrating did you do before busy season ended? Probably not enough! Let's conspire, together, to change this! What if we learned how to take a breath after we accomplish one thing, to acknowledge and celebrate it? How might that change things in our profession? Check out our latest blog to learn more. https://lnkd.in/gZQnkCK7

As we enter into the final months of the year, you may be looking at your profitability and wondering what you can do to kick it up a notch before December 31st. And what you can do after we celebrate the new year to continue adding to your income this year and beyond.

Check out my new article for Arizona Society of CPAs, Why Relationships Matter Most in Accounting, to explore why healthy working relationships are critical to our professions success. When our relationships are healthy, we bring more of our full selves to work. We engage at higher levels. We feel more energized, focused, productive and willing to help. When our relationships flourish, we can all be more human, and bring in the humanity that our profession needs. https://lnkd.in/gTcvVzGz

One of the biggest challenges for any accounting professional, whether they're new to the industry or a seasoned expert, is growing their practice and standing out from the crowd. Our new campaign with Aaron Patrick and Caroline E. will dive into their top five ways that accountants can grow their firm. He's a sneak peek at what's coming. 👀 Make sure you're following our Intuit Accountants page for a more thorough deep dive on each tip. I'd also love to hear what advice you'd give to someone who is looking to increase their client base.

This is one of the most significant days of the year at any CPA advisory firm – and Herbein is no exception. April 15 is the culmination of months of tremendous effort from our professionals, and annually, I am grateful for, and in awe of, their exceptional client service. And while the years change, the core of every busy season remains the same: a high volume of work, tight deadlines, and the necessity for meticulous accuracy, all compounded by the ever-evolving landscape of tax and accounting regulations. Like every year at our firm, April 15 is a big deal, and with good reason. However, while our team may briefly exhale a sigh of relief, the break is short-lived. This might surprise you, and it has for the many who have asked me over the years how Herbein professionals occupy their time outside of busy season. The prevailing perception is that from April 16 onwards – and continuing through to December, when busy season ramps up again – our firm’s workload diminishes substantially. Let's examine that notion (forgive the bad CPA pun) for a moment. Beyond busy season, our team remains steadfast in serving clients as trusted business advisors – and their impact transcends the calendar. Our team offers comprehensive year-round services, which encompass, but are not limited to, a wide range of business advisory consulting. Our professionals actively seek opportunities to innovate and add value. Whether it's identifying cost-saving measures, optimizing operational efficiencies, or providing strategic guidance for growth, they’re committed to driving success for our clients 365 days a year. Finally, our team is dedicated to professional development, staying up to date on tax laws and other regulations, and refining its processes – all of which helps them be even better at what they do. April 15 is a yearly reminder of the deservedly vital role busy season plays in our profession. And again, I would like to thank our team for their hard work and dedication to excellence during this period – while recognizing that their commitment extends well beyond today’s deadline. Our team works tirelessly throughout the year, serving clients across various disciplines and making a meaningful impact, long after busy season draws to a close. #herbein #teamherbein #drivingsuccess

I had the pleasure of attending my husband‘s office Christmas party this year. He’s an accountant/CPA/MBA, but his title is actually “consultant.” For years he traveled A LOT and most of my friends joked he was in the CIA because I had no idea what he actually did. He’s pretty smart and he helps private companies go public and does something called Sarbanes-Oxley. I’m sure he does a lot more than this but this is what he’s known for at his company. Despite being super smart, he can always find time to create whatever spreadsheet I may need because I’m clueless in Excel. But back to the party- Have you ever noticed the differences between accountants and attorneys Christmas parties? 🎄Accountants vs. Attorneys: Holiday Party Edition🎄 ** Parking Lot Check** Accountants pull up in practical cars—Toyota Camrys, Honda CR-Vs, maybe a Prius. Attorneys? Luxury all the way: BMWs, Teslas, and Mercedes-Benzes. **The Vibe** Accountants chat about year-end budgets and tax tips, while attorneys debate legal rulings and brag about courtroom wins. **Closing Time** Accountants are out of the door at 9 because tomorrow’s an early day. Attorneys? Closing down the bars and out all night. No matter the crowd, every party has its charm. What’s your favorite holiday party memory?

One of those stressful weeks with almost no desk time to produce deliverables. Right now at Marriott Bonvoy for the always great annual 2-day seminar on International Taxation organised by FSR - danske revisorer, and Tuesday and Wednesday were spent at our fall partner strategy offsite at the lovely Hotel Hornbækhus og Villa Strand. Stress over deliverables aside, it has been and still is a highly meaningful and fruitful week in the bigger picture. I am imbued with the conviction that both events in each their way have been worth the time many times over. Aligning partner objectives and behaviour with our 2024-2026 #NextLevel strategy is of the highest importance (as in any business), and I personally took a lot of important points and action items with me from our partner strategy offsite. And a sense of urgency and charge to execute, now! Depending on your relationship with our firm, you may get a lot of partner posts about the offsite in your feed. If so, you may notice a conspicuous repetition of the words #kind, #generous and #demanding. There is no need to make any secret of the fact that this reflects a concerted communication effort. But that is because we really do care greatly about these three core firm tenets. Never compromising on our commitment to the highest order of service to our clients means that tension can arise over deliveries. It is not always easy to combine #kindness, #generosity and #demand. I am convinced that they are not opposites, though. It is kind to instill in our people that tremendous results require tremendous effort. To my mind, it would not be kind to feign to our people that average effort can yield tremendous results. But instilling this #demanding culture must go hand in hand with a #kind approach to our relationships with our own people, our clients, other external stakeholders and relations – and with one another in the partnership. And a spirit of #generosity – not just in an economical sense – must also be embedded in our dealings within and outside the firm. That is not to say that we will never fail in these ambitions. That is why we must keep addressing it. That is why we spend such a significant portion of our partner sessions discussing it. We have done so since we articulated the key words #kind, #generous and #demanding early last year. And I am sure that we will keep doing it. Happy Friday out there.
