🌱🔌 Rural Electrification and #SDG7 is going to change how energy companies can market and sell the energy attributes from their off-grid electrification projects. At Okra Solar, we've observed how our partners are not just focusing on providing energy. They are tackling multiple complex issues within rural communities through their projects. Whether it's the energy companies themselves or third-party partners, the aim is to create sustainable and trust-building solutions. These "additionalities" — from enhancing local education and healthcare through reliable power to improving economic opportunities through energy access — are pivotal. They not only enhance the direct impact of each project but also build a strong case for the effectiveness of Climate Finance. #RuralElectrification #ClimateFinance #SustainableDevelopment #CommunityImpact #voluntarycarbonmarket #carboncredits Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA) Alliance for Rural Electrification The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) #energy

Tandem Bank to offset 100% of operational emissions with the help of Climate Impact Partners 🌿 Our CEO, Alex Mollart, said: "As we work towards our own net zero targets, offsetting lets us act now. Partnering with Climate Impact Partners, with their 20+ years of expertise in carbon offsetting, means we know the projects we support are making a real, verified impact on the climate." The revenue generated by the carbon credits is being used to support Rooftop Solar Energy projects in East Africa, helping bring solar lighting systems to households across Kenya and Uganda. Prefab housing with solar panels & battery storage is the solution to off grid villages and schools.
The benefits of adopting renewable energy in Africa are particularly relevant and promising. Here are some of the main benefits: Reduction of energy dependence: Africa can reduce its dependence on imported fossil fuels, thus promoting greater energy autonomy. Access to energy: Renewable energy can offer access to electricity in remote regions, improving the quality of life and economic development. Job creation: The development of renewable energy creates local jobs and stimulates the economy. Environmental protection: They contribute to the fight against climate change and the preservation of African biodiversity. Sustainability: Renewable energy is sustainable and can respond to the population and economic growth of the continent. Innovation: They encourage innovation and the use of clean and modern technologies. These advantages show that renewable energy can play a key role in Africa's sustainable development. #greens_hift #planete_technique #green_future

This synopsis rightly put together by Anjorin Oluwatobi SDGs emphasizes how critical it is to take a balanced approach to developing renewable energy in Africa. While investments in clean energy are welcome, it is equally critical to address any possible harm to communities and ecosystems. For renewable energy projects to be beneficial to the local community and environment, careful planning and sustainable practices are necessary. From conducting Thorough ESIAs, Sustainable project project design and Waste Management practice for after life of solar panels as cited by Oluwakemi Ige. Adoption of clean energy is great and should be done properly. #sustainability

Did you notice this trend too? My keen interest in the Development Finance and Private Equity space has shown a trend of foreign investments in Africa's energy potential, and this brings me to the directly proportional challenge of this very good trend. Africa faces a crucial challenge - building a clean energy future while minimizing negative impacts. This highlights the need to balance the environmental benefits of renewable energy sources like hydropower, wind, and solar with potential drawbacks on ecosystems and communities. Many African countries are rapidly expanding their electricity grids and renewable energy offers a path to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and combat climate change. Hydro, Wind, and Solar are the main renewable energy sources currently being explored in Africa (with solar being arguably the most popular). From construction to operations, Large dams can be disruptive to ecosystems and displace communities, Wind farms can impact land use and potential impacts on bird populations, Large-scale solar farms can also pose great waste management challenge alongside land-use impacts. A sustainable energy future requires careful planning to minimize negative impacts on Ecosystems (Protecting biodiversity and sensitive habitats), as well as Communities (Ensuring fair compensation and minimizing displacement). Finding the right balance is key. Africa has the potential to be a leader in clean energy, but it must be done responsibly. #AfricaCleanEnergy #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability
