The past few weeks have been pivotal for my career growth as an Assistant Manager of Contracts. I had the privilege of being part of the team that led the signing ceremony of construction contracts, supervision consultancy, and cost consultancy of #Emaar Pakistan mega project "The Park Edge Towers"
I was involved throughout the entire contract process, from sending out the Expression of Interest emails, floating tenders, and responding to queries, to commercial and technical evaluations, and finally selecting the most suitable bidder and awarding the contract. Working closely with three highly qualified mentors, I was able to contribute my views, many of which were incorporated into the final contract documents.
One of the most important lessons I learned was risk assessment. By studying various contracts, I developed an understanding of where risks should be minimized. For example, in our construction contract, we signed a decennial guarantee with the contractor, ensuring structural integrity for 10 years. This will greatly improved workmanship and maintained the quality of work.
Another crucial lesson was the importance of timely and accurate paperwork. This project, unique with its 2.1 million sqft area, 41 floors, and dual towers, is being handled by a foreign contractor for the first time in Karachi. This has provided a unique learning opportunity regarding how foreign contractors manage mega projects.
Overall, this #project has been a tremendous learning experience. I have learned how to lead, manage #data, conduct data analysis, create compelling project narratives for approvals, and handle contract administration and drafting. Paying attention to minor details has proven essential, as even small oversights can lead to significant issues later on.
This journey has not only enhanced my #professional skills but also reinforced the importance of thoroughness and precision in contract management.
