Over the weekend, STEMwise participated in seventeenth edition of the Dubrovnik Forum international conference in Dubrovnik, hosted by Ministarstvo vanjskih i europskih poslova RH (Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (HR). We actively participated in discussions aimed at bridging global divides and fostering important dialogues. Government officials and experts discussed navigating global political changes and advancing sustainable development goals. Key topics included transatlantic cooperation, AI in diplomacy, and sustainable investments in emerging economies, all promoting a more interconnected and resilient future through partnerships and innovative solutions. Panel discussion such as "Endorsing Sustainable Investments to Reduce Development Challenges: Multi-stakeholder Approach" put focus on the critical role of sustainable investments, with speakers like Teresa Czerwińska, Vice-President of the EIB, emphasizing the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration to drive economic growth and environmental conservation. Insights from experts like Dr. Irina Ghaplanyan on environmental diplomacy offered new perspectives on managing and funding innovative projects. Austausch e.V. was proud to co-organize an seminar in Helsinki, alongside Historians Without Borders and the Civic Solidarity Platform, with the support of the German and Finnish Ministries of Foreign Affairs. This seminar addressed three key themes: 1️⃣ The OSCE’s role in economic and environmental security (the “second dimension”) 2️⃣ The climate crisis as an intersectional challenge 3️⃣ Civil society’s engagement in environmental justice, both within and beyond the OSCE framework Representing Austausch e.V. at the event was our Second Director, Jacob Riemer, who engaged in meaningful discussions on critical issues facing the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). This gathering was part of the Helsinki+50 Reflection Group initiative, aimed at formulating policy recommendations for OSCE bodies, member states, and civil society. Our shared insights will feed into a comprehensive report to be presented in Helsinki in July 2025. We were focused on the protection of the environment and the new European doctrine of ecological security, which is required due to military actions on the borders of Europe. Jacob Riemer emphasized: "We need a new approach to environmental security that targeted uses potentials of civil society’s. This approach must be inclusive, as literally everyone is affected, with vulnerable and underrepresented groups impacted the most. Look at Ukraine — who is more vulnerable than those in a state of war? Or consider ethnic minorities who lack proper representation, live in poverty, and cannot afford to rebuild their homes after floods or other disasters. Strengthening civil society’s contributions in this area is our mission, our commitment, and what we stand for.” We extend our gratitude to our partners and participants for their commitment to fostering civil society engagement, tackling environmental issues, and strengthening international collaboration. Together, we’re driving change! 🌍✨ #AustauschEV #Helsinki50 #OSCE #CivicEngagement #EnvironmentalJustice #ClimateAction #InternationalCollaboration

South-South cooperation is crucial in enhancing development efforts through sharing best practices, pooling resources, and exchanging expertise among Global South countries. Thanks to the Global South's joint efforts, a global, voluntary conceptual framework now exists to measure South-South Cooperation. How can better data support more efficient policy measures and contribute to global efforts in reaching sustainable development for all? How do we ensure the full potential of this historic opportunity to measure South-South cooperation? https://ow.ly/u5nF50Sot25

🗳️Voting for the Alps [2/5] Territorial development in the Alps 𝐃𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐄𝐔𝐒𝐀𝐋𝐏 𝐢𝐬? ➡️ EUSALP stands for the European Union’s Strategy for Alpine Regions. It is a strategy which aims to provide a framework for cross-border cooperation and territorial cohesion in regions facing similar challenges. Don’t confuse it with the Alpine Convention, which is an international treaty between the Alpine countries and the European Union ! 📇 In Article 174 of the Treaty of the Functioning of the European Union, it is stated that the EU must pay particular attention to territories with specific needs (demographic or natural constraints), including mountain areas. The Cohesion Policy, with initiatives such as EUSALP for instance, aims to reduce disparities in territorial development between the regions of the European Union by supporting investments in regional development. From mobility and health services to broadband rollout, support for employment and environmental transition. ➡️ [In practice] Interreg Central Europe is an example of a funding program which supports and encourages transnational cooperation in order to make regions more resilient to common challenges that know no borders. An example for such a project is CENTRAL MOUNTAINS from CIPRA International Lab : this project strengthens the transfer of knowledge in and between the Alps and the Carpathians. 📣 𝐓𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭, 𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 9th! #AlpineDevelopment #EUSALP #AlpineCommunities #EuropeanParliament #TerritorialCohesion #CohesionPolicy #RegionalDevelopment #MountainAreas #Interreg #TransnationalCooperation #ResilientRegions #EU #AlpineConvention #Article174 #InterregAlpineSpace #KnowledgeTransfer #EU #Alps #Mountains #CIPRA

Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark—A Strategic and Cultural Treasure I’m not a politician or an expert on international affairs by any means. I’m simply a concerned citizen who believes in the power of dialogue and shared ideas. What follows are just my thoughts, shaped by a deep respect for Denmark’s history and its role in the world. Greenland is much more than an island rich in resources or a strategic military location—it is a vital part of Denmark’s heritage and the heart of the Arctic. Its people, culture, and autonomy are central to the Kingdom of Denmark’s identity, and we must protect and respect Greenland as the world’s interest in it grows. Global powers may see Greenland as a chess piece in geopolitics, but Denmark sees it as family. To ensure its strength and independence, we must invest in its development, infrastructure, and well-being. By working in partnership with Greenland, we can ensure its future is guided by those who call it home. This is a challenge, but it is also an opportunity. Denmark has the chance to show the world what respectful and collaborative leadership looks like—prioritizing people over politics. There is always hope. By standing together, Denmark and Greenland can chart a path forward that honors heritage, ensures autonomy, and strengthens our shared future.
