It's a critical time for our sector to really lean into what we are and what our value proposition is to arts and culture. So grateful to have research to dig into to help us through this time of reflection and reframing... Go ADC Consulting !!
**NEW REPORT** Arts service organizations (ASOs) play a critical role in nourishing the United States arts ecosystem and have been doing so for generations. Led by cultural strategist Alejandra Duque Cifuentes and Senior Research and Planning Consultant, Carrie Blake of ADC Consulting LLC, in collaboration with an Advisory Cohort of arts workers, this multi-phase research project began in May 2023 with background research to understand what is already known about arts service organizations (ASOs) and ground the process in the experiences and perspectives of ASOs, their workers, partners, funders, and beneficiaries. A joy to watch this film. Joy is one of the 10 essential threads of Original Learning - many of the other threads were being mentioned such as risk, time, imagination, interaction, wonder etc Also play. Play is at the heart of children being able to explore their fascinations - an atelier of this kind allows people to play with art materials - to really get to know them. That children with disabilities are being prioritized is fabulous - because if it works for them it usually works for everyone. Recent reading though is making me seriously question the word "special" though - and as an autistic person I have never particularly liked "special rights" - I have the same rights as everyone else - not special ones. Some children/adults need extra support/resources/time in order to access their rights. Special can make it feel a little othering at times. Maybe instead of special school it should be inclusive school? Maybe instead of special needs education - inclusive education? Or rights based education or educational support or? But there definitely needs to be more spaces like this where adults/teachers can practice teaching for/with learner autonomy and can not just know about it, but actually understand it - learning by doing

**NEW REPORT** The National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA) serves on the Grantmakers in the Arts board and is introducing this report that is the culmination of more than 18 months of dialogue with Indigenous artists, elders, culture bearers, tribal liaisons, leaders of Native organizations, and individuals working inside the tribal relations offices of U.S. state and federal government agencies. All artists face challenges, but Indigenous artists face extra hurdles from the effects of fraud and cultural appropriation. Support to Native organizations and artists represents only about 0.4% of state arts agency grant funding, and many tribes are not aware that state arts agencies even exist. The Kettering Foundation is integrating the arts into all areas of our work because of their capacity to affirm and advance democratic values. We are pleased the federal government shares that commitment. The National Endowment for the Arts and the White House Domestic Policy Council recently convened Healing, Bridging, Thriving: A Summit on Arts and Culture in Our Communities, which provides many examples of the ways in which the arts are “essential to the well-being, health, vitality, and democracy of our Nation.” https://lnkd.in/giVi4xVZ
The arts span every facet of life – the White House just hosted a summit about it
