I find it fascinating how 'under the radar' the @Baird Center expansion has been relative to the potential impact it has on our region. Kudos to Hunter Turpin for this great coverage and comprehensive overview of the convention center's potential impact on the region, challenges and opportunities it faces, and ultimately what it can mean for #MKE.

“The Upgrade” Tonight -- about a couple of hours or so after my arrival, many of my apps self-upgraded, including Telegram and WhatsApp but perhaps not WeChat. I couldn't tell but it looks like perhaps all of my Google apps have also upgraded. Maybe they are doing this favor to all those who attended NeurIPS 2024 in Vancouver. The apps seem to work just as well so far. For one thing, on WhatsApp, one can now edit one's messages directly. Something like recall and edit on WeChat, or a similar feature on Telegram, which were around for so many years. This was missing in my earlier version of WhatsApp. Last night, we went to Victoria Chinese Restaurant near Vancouver Fairmont. I thought the dinner was very good... Thank you to all the colleagues who attended, and all the hard work, walking the floors....NeurIPS, like CVPR, is a scene. The emphasis seems to be leaning back towards more theory but there were still plenty of unique problems, datasets and benchmarks introduced in a variety of domains, some new lines of research and architectural proposals, with the new Austrian company NXAI making high but economically attractive suggestions with their debut of their xLSTM series—the intentions and reasons for which are all good. The future, however, remains as always unknown except, perhaps, in certain drastically idealized world or worlds. And then we had the horrible speaking-to-one’s-own-bubble fiasco of the last keynote…. It was exactly the one I had decided not to attend.
Vancouver NeurIPS 2024 The Convention Center in Vancouver is a best in kind…

Today at ISPA in New York, Liv Aira is part of the panel ”Building the Future: Performance Spaces”, as part of Embassy of Sweden’s and Nordberg Movements’s dance delegation. “The pandemic prompted our sector to examine our use of spaces for performances. With buildings closed, we explored how spaces could better support artistic excellence, community engagement, equity, and new technologies. What new facilities and approaches have since emerged, and how are we using these lessons to shape the performance spaces of the future?”

Daily dose of Optimism: As Peter Ducker said, "The best way to create the future is to build the future". At The Earthshot Prize, we believe in the power of creativity and innovation to create the future. We believe in people around the world reclaiming agency over their future and fixing the world, one solution at a time. We believe in the game-changers, the change-makers, the creators, the builders, the dreamers and the do-ers. Because of them, we wake up daily with optimism about the future they're creating for all of us. We also wake up each day with a renewed sense of urgency. Time is ticking and history is being written. We must all go faster, bigger, braver and bolder. This is our singular call to action to those with influence and capital: Speed solutions to scale. Because the innovators can create the future, but together, we need to speed the future towards us faster than ever before. And that is a collective endeavour requiring more courage and collaboration than ever before. Thank you to our incredible Founding Partners Bloomberg Philanthropies for hosting and convening courageous conversations with incredible people. Thank you to everyone who has said yes to joining us on the 24th. Together we are a movement for change and action.
Can't wait to hear from these incredible speakers at the #EarthshotInnovationSummit taking place on September 24th in New York City 🗽✨ https://lnkd.in/eZaB3MDG
