We're excited to be making a positive impact in our communities! At International Lifelinefund, we're dedicated to reducing firewood consumption in schools and promoting clean cooking solutions. Our energy-efficient stoves are designed to minimize firewood usage and eliminate harmful smoke, thanks to careful design and years of research and development. By providing clean cooking solutions to schools, we're not only saving time spent on cooking but also creating a healthier environment for students and staff. We're thrilled to partner with World Food Programme on this project in Karamoja, Uganda, where we're bringing clean cooking solutions to 113 schools benefitting over 115,176 students and teachers. This initiative will not only improve the health and well-being of the school communities but also reduce firewood consumption by 50% and Dave thousands of hours spent on cooking each week. Join us in our mission to empower communities through sustainable solutions! #CleanCooking #Sustainability #Partnership #Betterlives #

Toilet talk! Along a busy highway in western Kenya, Cleophas Anunda Jomo operates his sanitation business welcoming customers from his community in Bungoma County in need of new or improved latrines, basic toilets, and other sanitation products. “I had never thought of engaging in sanitation until I met Juliet, a project staff with USAID Western Kenya Sanitation who drew my interest into sanitation as a potentially profitable business,” says Cleophas. He adds, “I started off as a sanitation sales agent and a latrine construction artisan and over time I have grown my business making a good income from both. Now I own a hardware store. I consider myself an angel to the society, serving my community by providing affordable sanitation services, hence the name of my business, Angelic Hardware Store.” By supporting entrepreneurs like Cleopas, USAID is not just building individual latrines but creating a sustainable marketplace for improving access to affordable, quality, decent and dignified sanitation products and services for all Kenyans. This work is complemented by activities to increase access to finance, support county governments to develop and implement sanitation policies, and strengthen water and sanitation service providers. #Acceleratingchange #19November #WorldToiletDay #sanitation #opendefecation @USAIDKenya @rti-international

#WorldWaterDay: Just a few years ago, Nakwamor Akinyori from Sasak Echoke Village in Kenya's Turkana County, had to trek many hours under the scorching sun to look for water for her family. And she often had to make do with contaminated water drawn from scoop holes dug in dry river beds. Her story mirrored life in her community. Now, the parent of four, is among the 60,000 people in Turkana County accessing clean and safe water. This is thanks to solar-powered boreholes and water distribution systems, pipeline extensions, borehole rehabilitation, low-cost defluoridation and water dispensing ATM technologies. All managed by the local communities. With plenty of water available, Nakwamor and many of her peers are growing food, including vegetables, under irrigation. They have also started soap-making and other income-generating activities. “My family no longer sleeps hungry. We also don't eat only one meal a day like before. We have plenty of food. I even sell some of the vegetables to the locals and use the money to buy household necessities and pay school fees for my children," she says. Availability of water in these communities is transforming lives. Women and girls have more time to do productive work, children are staying in schools and water-borne diseases have reduced. As we celebrate Nakwamor's journey this World Water Day, let's remember that access to clean water isn't just about survival, it's about empowerment, resilience, and the promise of a brighter future for all. The water provision is part of an initiative facilitated by Practical Action in Kenya and supported by Grundfos Foundation | PDJF.
