A clinical dilemma exercise from the IPA Confidentiality Committee: “My patient has consented to my use of their clinical material for presentation at a national conference.” What issues come into play when we consider presenting about our patients? Take a look at our report on ethical issues in psychoanalysis: https://buff.ly/48NXPaY #ethics #confidentiality #patient #psychotherapy #psychology #psychoanalysis #Friday
One way of getting around all this ‘dilemma’ stuff of course is to either co-present and co-create material for learning or better still, offer patients the opportunity to share our own learning from our own therapy journeys. That would involve an entire move away from the false split between the ‘patient’ and the ‘analyst’ and this would of course require academics and analysts to give up assumed unique perspectives and knowlege on human distress.
I mean, how could we having a patient with a psychological condition, his or her consent while he/she is "mentally" deficient !! for me, it still a very big question !
I was just about to tag Aisling Fegan Robyn Timoclea - you beat me to it! 🙂
