“In nature, animals that cannot adapt die, and it’s no different in business.”
These words from Dr. Chitra Anand, shared during a session hosted by the A100 at Calgary #InnovationWeekYYC, highlight the importance of intrapreneurs in helping organizations navigate change.
Drawing from her experience at Microsoft and Telus and her book, The Greenhouse Approach, Anand explained how intrapreneurs—those who challenge norms and foster innovation from within—help businesses stay competitive in a changing world.
The session explored the obstacles intrapreneurs face, especially in large organizations where rigid systems can hinder progress. Anand emphasized the need for leadership to create environments that support creativity and adaptability:
🔴 Replace rigid rules with guiding principles
🔴 Embrace iterative, small-step innovation
🔴 Foster psychological safety for sharing ideas and taking risks
“Within chaos lies innovation. Within crisis lies opportunity,” she said, urging organizations to empower intrapreneurs to navigate challenges and build long-term resilience.
