Welcome to the first nominations of 2025 for the Weekly Nice Guy and Gal Awards. I took a little break over the holidays, and in fact, I am writing this from a cottage on the Atlantic coast in Ireland where I've been for the past week for a family wedding. Before we get to the nominations, I want to rectify a huge mistake. In my last post of 2024, I recognized the people who were instrumental in making the year the success that it was. But, I left one really important person out. Ben Reiling taught me so much last year. Not the least of which was how to be a smart, caring, hard working leader. Thank you! Now back to the Awards. Every Friday, I’ll share nominations for people who have been identified as nice guys (and gals). That's it. It's that simple. If you know someone in our industry (or any industry) who is a good person, let's recognize them. If you want to nominate someone, just shoot me a private message by 5:00 EST on Thursday. There are only 3 requirements: 1) you have to be connected to the person you nominate 2) you can only nominate one person per week 3) you can’t nominate yourself 😀 If you want to provide a brief reason for your selection, that’s great, but it’s not a requirement. Let’s recognize people who make a difference simply by being nice. Have a great day, everyone. https://lnkd.in/eN4WEu44 #network #sportsbiz #people #niceguy #networking #sportsmarketing

the things that you can accomplish when you finally realize the importance of learning to just focus....
Sha’Carri Richardson’s journey to the Paris Olympics was highlighted by the emotional support of her family, who celebrated her qualification at the U.S. Olympic Trials. After winning the women’s 100m with a season-best time of 10.71 seconds, Richardson shared a heartfelt moment with her family in the stands, emphasizing the importance of their unwavering support. This moment perfectly encapsulates the power of the C4 Matrix from the FIT methodology. Sha’Carri’s success is not just a personal victory but a testament to the power of Communication, Connection, Collaboration, and Community. Her family’s presence and encouragement exemplify how a strong support network can propel individuals to achieve their highest potential. Just as Richardson’s family celebrated her achievements, building and nurturing dynamic communities can help us all overcome challenges and reach our goals. Sha’Carri Richardson’s journey to Paris is a powerful reminder of how the support of family and community can propel us to achieve our dreams.

Ahead of tonight's crucial final against Poland, I've been looking at - how this team manages turnover - how it manages itself in adversity - where is it's thought process? Turnover - There have been huge departures and absences (Bale, Ramsey) where younger, less senior players have been required to step up and grasp the responsibility of leading. Ethan Ampadu and Harry Wilson immediately come to mind. Adversity - You could argue that qualification should have been a formality. Poor results against Latvia and Armenia placed us in a hole. But it's surely how a team responds to adversity which is more important? Thought Process - Finally, tonight poses a 'Sliding Doors' moment for the players, staff and 3 million fans. Is it a summer on the beach in Málaga or a journey to Germany that we remember for a lifetime? Primarily, focus on the task in hand and the outcome takes care of itself. So many commonalities with day to day team work. Yma O Hyd.

With some TWTG-ers in the stadium (Hi, Hannah 🙌), we witnessed great performances this Olympic summer... One standout event for us was the 4 x 400 mixed relay, where Dutch athlete Femke Bol sprinted the final 400 meters to secure a victory and win Gold with her team. She overcame setbacks in a previous race to excel. You can watch her amazing performance here: https://lnkd.in/ezqxaGKj. We are cheering her on as she continues her remarkable journey. Whether in Paris or at work, can we draw lessons for business success from the journeys of athletes like Femke Bol and other international champions? ▪ Passion and Purpose: These drive excellence. ▪ Resilience: Overcoming setbacks is key. ▪ Focus and Attention to Detail: Small details make a big difference. ▪ Teamwork and Collaboration: Success is a team effort. At TWTG, we share and aspire to these values and virtues. There is much for businesses to learn about creating an environment robust enough to overcome setbacks, fostering collaborative teamwork, and providing room for individuals to excel. What are your thoughts? #Olympics #BusinessLessons #Success #Teamwork #Resilience #Passion #TWTG Image: Getty

Heading to our first competition of 2024 in Denmark today! Couldn’t be more excited to see the progress of @usawr on the court! As we are in route one of the themes I’m thinking about is grace. It’s something we discuss each time we’re together. I believe evidence of grace being present will signal a healthy high performance team culture… IF… …we give the ability for athletes to take action from and through grace. Create an environment to learn and grow. Give people the opportunity to have an environment where it’s ok to fail. Provide feedback. Give them the opportunity to take action from the grace period. Progress usually follows. 📸credit: Mélanie Butez

Row, eat, sleep, repeat! Let’s see how things sit after week two of the #Pacific24 row... 🥇 Liz and Lena: Currently leading the fleet towards Kaua’i, Liz and Lena have really benefited from choosing a more southerly route! 🥈Wild Waves: Charlotte and Jessica have been climbing the leaderboard. Like many other crews, knockdowns seem to be the norm, but they’re staying positive and focused. 🥉Salty Sappers: The crossing has been filled with drama for the sappers. They've had to deploy a drogue, battle knockdowns, and deal with a rudder issue. 🚣 Pacific Triow: The girls are going strong, despite some brutal days resulting in several knockdowns (where the waves move the boat to a 90 degree angle towards the water surface and capsizes). 🚣♂️ Hericane Rowing: A few brutal days led to an EPIRB activation (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon, used for distress signalling and locating, crucial for alerting search and rescue authorities). The team capsized, but they were prepared, kept calm, and are back on track. 🚣♂️ Human Powered Potential: What stands out from this team is their strong team spirit: crucial when undertaking the challenge of rowing across an ocean. Not even two hatches full of water have ruined their spirit! 🚣♂️ Full Foarce: Despite a strong start, this incredible team have begun to slow down. Sore, tired, and cold, the team recently experienced a capsize, ripping off two of their rowing seats. This scary incident caused them to spend some hours on para anchor, while carrying out repairs. 🚣♂️ United Row: Anna and Jenny might be closing off the fleet on the ocean, but the current ETA suggests all teams will arrive in Kaua’i within just a few days of each other. A lot can still happen! #PacificRow #WorldsToughestRow #OceanRowing #Kauai World's Toughest Row

Question to Grok and the answer: https://lnkd.in/d8kpbETe ¨If we consider the total population of each country and measure Olympic success by the number of gold medals won, the top 5 countries would be: San Marino: With a population of just over 33,000 and 3 gold medals, San Marino takes the top spot with a gold medal for every 11,000 people. Bermuda: With a population of around 62,000 and 1 gold medal, Bermuda comes in second with a gold medal for every 62,000 people. Grenada: With a population of approximately 112,000 and 1 gold medal, Grenada is third with a gold medal for every 112,000 people. Bahamas: With a population of about 393,000 and 6 gold medals, the Bahamas is fourth with a gold medal for every 65,500 people. New Zealand: With a population of around 5 million and 9 gold medals, New Zealand rounds out the top 5 with a gold medal for every 555,556 people. So, in terms of gold medals per capita, these are the top 5 countries. Who knew the little guys could pack such a punch?´ As a Dutch guy (small country) I dislike this answer
