You're spot on Ben. This is not an issue for large or small suppliers. It's an issue for all suppliers. To the point you made, larger suppliers are just spending more money but aren't necessarily getting a larger share. A general issue that our industry is facing right now is that nobody wants to listen to the wants/needs of the customer. If we spend more time listening to the customer and understanding their challenges, that information will likely shape how we structure our organizations and inform how we should work with the wholesaler in the new world we all live in. Frankly, I find that it's often the large suppliers that lose the most when they approach the wholesaler with the attitude that "you need to sell more because I'm larger". It's a shortsighted view that is only going to result in business declines. You said it in your article. We should all spend more time focused on the supply chain and inventory management and meeting the customer's needs. By no means are my comments an indictment on the wholesaler, but the route to market and relationship between supplier - wholesaler - customer has dramatically changed. Those that change with it will have much more success. Thank you for sharing.
