🌟 I am pleased to announce that our latest work presented at the IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting in Seattle, entitled "𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗨𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻,” is published on IEEE Xplore. 📊 This work presents a detailed techno-economic profitability analysis of PV-BESS potential revenues from energy arbitrage. A power-energy model with a computationally efficient mixed-integer linear optimization logic is developed to evaluate the optimal net profit. The results suggest the relevance of considering a cycle-counting battery degradation model. 🙌 I would like to thank my PhD supervisors at Politecnico di Torino, Prof. Andrea Lanzini and Francesco Demetrio Minuto, and Prof. Jack Brouwer, my supervisor during the mobility period at UC Irvine, for their support during the research activities. #BESS #PV #EnergyArbitrage #MILP #BatteryDegradation #TechnoEconomicAnalysis #ElectricityMarket #CAISO #IEEE

🔋 Powering the Future: Professor Sanjeev Mukerjee Traditional energy generation and storage methods that rely on fossil fuels strain the environment and limit efficiency. Combustion-based energy significantly contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, intensifies urban pollution, and impacts air quality worldwide. For many researchers and innovators, the question is clear: How can we power the world in a way that sustains rather than strains our planet? Dr. Sanjeev Mukerjee, a College of Science Distinguished Professor at Northeastern University and Founder and Director of the Center for Renewable Energy Technology (NUCRET) and its subset, the Laboratory for Electrochemical Advanced Power (LEAP), is pioneering solutions to this problem. His research focuses on advanced electrochemical systems, from hydrogen fuel cells to solid-state batteries, which have the potential to redefine energy storage and conversion. “We hope to change the world by completely eliminating all combustion-related processes,” Dr. Mukerjee says. 📣 The world's first center for solar batteries and optoionic technologies is being established in Bavaria by the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Max Planck Society (MPG), supported by the Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Wirtschaft, Landesentwicklung und Energie. 📣 ☀️🔋 What are solar batteries and how do they work? Solar batteries are integrated components that combine solar cells and batteries, enabling the direct conversion of sunlight into electrochemical energy and its storage. When photons hit the light-absorbing layer, they excite electrons and influence ion movement, enabling simultaneous light absorption and energy storage. 🔋☀️ Why is the SolBat Center important? The establishment of the SolBat Center in Bavaria, supported by TUM and MPG, aims to research and develop new energy storage systems, enhancing the efficiency and flexibility of solar energy use, and exploring the potential of optoionics for various applications.
