I just earned a new verified achievement from Interskill related to systems programming on IBM mainframes running z/OS! According to Interskill, those who earn the "Mainframe Systems Programmer - Systems Programming - Foundations 2.5" badge can, "explain the system data sets that are required to support a z/OS 2.5 environment and the initialization process that uses these data sets and system parameters to enable it. The individual can explain the role of JES2 and its components and how work is processed."

I just earned a new verifiable badge from Interskill Learning! This time I earned the "Mainframe Application Programmer – IBM Development Environment – Foundations 2.5" badge! I earned this badge after successfully completing the "IBM z/OS 2.5 Application Programming Basics" and "IBM z/OS 2.5 Application Programming Environment Overview" courses on Interskill and passing the mastery exams for each! These courses introduced me to the common programming languages used in the IBM mainframe environment, including COBOL, PL/I, C/C++, Java, REXX, CLIST, and HLASM. There was also a lot of coverage of the IBM z/OS Language Environment (LE), its use, and configuration; and how program conditions and ABENDs are handled in LE. I found these courses to be fascinating, and I look forward to further exploring software development in the z/OS mainframe environment!

Starting my IBM z/OS Mainframe Practitioner Professional Certificate by the completion of 2nd course "Getting Started on Mainframe with z/OS Commands and Panels" from IBM through Coursera. This course helped me gain knowledge on: - Navigate through ISPF/PDF dialogs and use the basic ISPF/PDF functions and the ISPF Editor. - Use ISPF/PDF to allocate data sets and edit data sets using the ISPF Editor primary and line commands. The individual can identify common programming languages used on the mainframe, how Language Environment works, and the components that support batch job processing. (From the Badge Description) -I just finished the IBMz Inter-skill Badge called Mainframe Application Programmer - IBM Development Environment - Foundations 2.5. I really loved the format of this course. So, the badge consists of two sections, 1) application programming basics, and 2) application programming environment overview. I felt the first section was a great refresher of what I know such as Db2, catalogs, datasets, JCLs, and so forth, a bit of cloud. So, it was nice to refresh those concepts in my brain. The second part of the course, which was a nice challenge =), was learning more about the environment of application programming, which included learning about transaction process and getting into the history of programming languages such a COBOL, FORTRAN, and etc. I was happy that I finally learned what FORTRAN is and what it is used for, since I used to see my dad using that software and asking him, in a confused fashion, about what that gibberish was when I was in like 6th grade. Overall, I really enjoyed the certification and learned a lot.
