🔐 Brian Krebs on AI-Driven Cybercrime: What You Need to Know 🌐 Cybersecurity expert briankrebs recently highlighted how cybercriminals are weaponizing AI for scams—using deepfakes, voice cloning, and impersonation to defraud individuals and organizations. Key insights from Brian and the FBI: 🔒 Create a secret phrase with family for identity verification. 🔍 Spot deepfake flaws: distorted features, unrealistic movements, or lagging shadows. 📵 Limit online sharing of your image/voice; keep social profiles private. ☎️ Verify calls by contacting organizations directly via official numbers. 💳 Never share sensitive info or send money to unknown individuals. Brian’s tip: Send unknown callers to voicemail to avoid falling victim to scams. 🛡️ IT leaders, this is a call to action. Educate your teams, strengthen security practices, and stay vigilant against these evolving threats. "If the world's best cybersecurity companies aren't safe from deepfake attacks, the fate of us mere mortals lies in doing all we can to stay vigilant and secure.” A recent report from TechCrunch highlighted how Wiz, a leading cybersecurity firm, was targeted by a deepfake attack just weeks ago. Dozens of Wiz employees received a voice message supposedly from the CEO, attempting to phish for their credentials. While the company was able to identify the attack, the CEO noted that the "risk of getting caught is very low" for cyber criminals using deepfakes. This underscores how critical it is for all of us to be aware of these emerging threats and take proactive steps to protect ourselves and our organizations. Some key tips: - Be highly suspicious of any unsolicited requests for sensitive information, even if they seem to come from a trusted source - Implement robust identity verification and multi-factor authentication measures - Stay up-to-date on the latest deepfake detection tools and techniques - checkout Contrails AI - Foster a culture of cybersecurity awareness and vigilance across your team The reality is that no one is immune. But by staying informed and proactive, we can all work to mitigate the risks posed by this dangerous new frontier of cybercrime. Let's make trust & safety a priority, for our own safety and that of our companies. #DeepFake #TrustAndSafety #OnlineSafety #Threat #CapacityBuilding https://lnkd.in/g2aXt7E7

🚨 Compromised Credentials: A Major Threat to Your Security 🚨 In 2023, Group-IB, a global cybersecurity leader, suffered a massive data breach that exposed tens of thousands of accounts, including credentials linked to Chat GPT. The rise of large language models has made them a prime target for cybercrime syndicates looking to steal sensitive data and gain unauthorized access. 🔐 What are compromised credentials? When attackers gain access to your passwords, keys, or other identifiers, they can access sensitive accounts and move undetected within an organization. Many breaches are caused by credential harvesting, where attackers steal login details using password sniffers, phishing campaigns, or malware. ⚙️ How it happens: Once a hacker has obtained your credentials, they can access everything from a single account to an entire database. This type of breach allows threat actors to exfiltrate data without raising alarms, often by leveraging trusted accounts within an organization. 🌍 Where does it come from? These attacks can come from external cybercriminals or insider threats. Stolen credentials can be used for future attacks, especially since many people reuse passwords across multiple platforms. 🛡️ To stay safe, adopt multi-factor authentication and avoid recycling passwords! #CompromisedCredentials #Cybersecurity #DataBreach #CredentialHarvesting #CyberThreats #RockSolidTechnology #MFA #PasswordSecurity #Phishing #Malware #SensitiveData #OnlineSafety #CyberAwareness #ThreatDetection #DataProtection #InfoSec #SecureYourAccounts #InsiderThreats #CyberResilience #DigitalSecurity #ProtectYourBusiness

With phishing attacks on the rise, it's important to remember to be on the lookout for signs that a scammer is imitating a trusted contact or company (like a slightly different URL or From address). As bad actors become more sophisticated, even using AI tools to assist them in crafting messages, it's also important to broadly beware of emails that create a sense of extreme urgency around encouraging you to divulge sensitive data, passwords, or financial information.
