AI video interviews enable companies to shift toward skills-based hiring, where the focus is on a candidate’s actual abilities rather than their educational background or job history. By analyzing the specific skills needed for the role and matching them with the candidate’s responses, companies can make more informed hiring decisions. 👥 Virtual interviews don’t have to feel distant—it’s all about bridging the digital gap! 👥 As an HR specialist, I've found that fostering genuine connections is key to successful hiring even in remote settings. Here's how I ensure that virtual interviews feel personal and engaging: 🔸 Start with small talk: A few minutes of casual conversation helps break the ice and creates a more relaxed atmosphere. It sets the tone for the rest of the interview. 🔸 Maintain “eye contact”: I create a sense of connection by looking directly into the camera, similar to an in-person interaction. This helps the candidate feel seen and valued. 🔸 Show empathy: I make it a point to ask about the candidate’s remote work experience or their home office setup. It not only shows I care but also helps gauge how well they’ll adapt to our work environment. 🔸 Be mindful of body language: Just like in a face-to-face interview, positive body language—nodding, smiling, and showing attentiveness—goes a long way in making candidates feel comfortable. 🔸 Create a two-way dialogue: Encourage candidates to ask questions, share their thoughts, and make it a conversation rather than just a Q&A session. It’s about building trust and making them feel like a part of the team. Incorporating these elements transforms a virtual interview into a genuine connection, making candidates feel valued and excited about the opportunity. 💬 How do you foster trust and connection during remote interviews? Hey, job-seekers and talent-acquisition folks. How common is this? What are your thoughts? How many times have you had an interview canceled by the hiring manager after a phone screening because they were not aware the job was listed as remote when it was not? This has happened to me a few times. Here's how a recent one played out. The job was listed as remote. I was clear that I was only interested in remote work, and I stated where I lived. The talent acquisition representative set up an interview with a hiring manager. Once the hiring manager got the invitation, they claimed the job was not remote, and the job was hybrid. The talent acquisition person was put in a difficult situation because the job was incorrectly listed. Mistakes happen, and first impressions are everything. Talent acquisition leaders and hiring managers must be mindful when listing jobs as remote when they are not. Also, job seekers have to make it clear about their status before moving forward with any conversations. It saves everyone time. When discussing roles with candidates it is important to identify if you are both on the same page about the working expectations before an interview can occur. Let's work together to make this better. #jobseekers #jobseekers #talentacquisition #talentacquisitionmanager #careerchange #recruiters #recruitmentmarketing
