🌪️ Hurricane Helene Aftermath: Severe Impact Across Tennessee and North Carolina 🌧️ The devastation left by Hurricane Helene is massive, especially across Tennessee and North Carolina. I-40 at the TN/NC border is washed out and Asheville is completely surrounded by floodwaters—accessible only by helicopter. 🚁 Fleet managers and drivers, please plan your routes carefully if you're operating in or around these areas. The days of relentless rain have left soil extremely soft, even in areas without visible flooding. If a wheel touches anything other than concrete or asphalt, you’re likely to get stuck. Worse, if it happens at speed, there’s a real risk of rolling over. ⚠️ At High Mountain Safety, we are committed to helping fleets navigate these unprecedented conditions safely. Stay alert, stay safe, and protect your team! 💪 #HurricaneHelene #FleetSafety #RoadSafety #Flooding #DriverSafety #I40Closure #Asheville #HighMountainSafety #Transportation #StaySafe #DisasterResponse

Hurricane Milton is bearing down on Tampa, Florida, as a powerful Category 3 storm, with storm surge concerns on par with a Category 4 or 5. This marks the third major event to disrupt the North American freight market in just two weeks, following the ILA strike and Hurricane Helene. As FEMA juggles relief efforts, disruptions to trucking capacity are already emerging. Tender rejection rates have spiked above 5% nationally, signaling tightening capacity across major Eastern port markets. With Milton’s expected damage to infrastructure and the call for nationwide disaster relief, freight operators brace for more turbulence ahead. The loss of life and devastation from Hurricane Milton is still being understood and heavy rain, high tides and storm surges continue to be a threat. There is unofficial reporting of an 8ft storm surge near Sarasota, and a surge of 3-6ft further south from Naples to Charlotte Harbor, while offshore wind drew water out of Tampa Bay. An unusually high incidence of tornadoes and very high rainfall (up to 18 inches so far) added to the challenges. Further flooding from heavy rain and storm surges is forecast. The impact of Milton on top of Hurricane Helene will make it hard for emergency managers to access the area and restoring power and filling fuel tanks will be an enormous challenge. Below are some important resources to be aware of: 1. The American Logistics Aid Network supports relief efforts through financial and in-kind donations from the logistics industry. In the medium term, supply chain managers should be monitoring the timeline for the Port of Tampa to resume operations (noting that inland transit may be the biggest challenge), particularly exporters of certain fertilizers and importers of a variety of bulk goods.
