I recently had a fascinating conversation with Alex Ananin who works in the space industry. We were contemplating the creation of energy storage systems and entire power systems for completely isolated lunar and even Martian bases. This dialog led me to certain thoughts. We humans are also a kind of energy storage. We constantly consume sunlight and eat plants that, in turn, accumulate energy through photosynthesis. This is the energy cycle in nature. As we stand at the threshold of exploring new galaxies, I believe that when calculating the long-isolated systems for sending humans on intergalactic journeys, scientists will also consider the energy reserves within each astronaut. #space #energystorage #solar #pv

While space is mostly an empty vacuum, a 2003 discovery revealed pressure waves from a black hole in the Perseus cluster which is located 222 million light-years away from Earth. These waves, caused by the black hole's influence on surrounding gas, are an incredibly low frequency (57 octaves below middle C) and inaudible to us. Sonification translates data like pressure waves into sound. Using Chandra X-ray Observatory data, scientists created a "soundscape" representing the black hole's interaction with the gas. The video's "radar" visualizes sound waves in different directions. Titan's Process Atrato® ultrasonic flowmeter is proving 'rock solid' in tests within a totally unique environment – microgravity. In space, liquids behave differently than on Earth, with processes that are usually masked by the Earth’s gravity becoming much more evident.
