In Canada, there are about 160,000 phone calls to police per year on this issue (speaking about domestic violence) - it’s much higher in the U.S.” says Shelter Movers, CEO, Marc Hull-Jacquin in a recent article by the Self Storage Association (SSA) - USA in their October 2024 article titled, "Storage from the Heart," (page 42). “Shelter Movers future is dependent on the generosity of the self storage industry . . . “ We are proud to be supporting Shelter Movers a non-profit which helps victims get their possessions to safety and at Bluebird Self Storage we store those items for no charge at our Canadian facilities. Our CEO, Jason Koonin, CFA, is on the National Cabinet for Shelter Movers, and he is a firm believer in businesses partnering with self-storage to help people in local communities. We, in conjunction, with our sister company, Sunbird Storage, were proud to host the Social Responsibility panel discussion at the Self Storage Association Fall 2024 Conference this year to increase awareness about the need to support our local communities and the non-profits within. Featured in the pictured displayed is also Vincent Kirton & Shana Kirton from Bluebird Self Storage. Also honored to be mentioned in the article with Charity Storage & Mario Macaluso https://lnkd.in/eM6jtGku #selfstorage #nonprofit #altruism #givingback #payitforward #donation #communitysupport

Someone with children who could use free clothing, has entered the chat: While it's commendable that 18,000 children received a season of clothing, it's equally disheartening that so many are in need—and surely, another 18,000 children could use similar assistance. I've said it before: parents need livable wages, hours that allow them to care for and build relationships with their children, and safe neighborhoods. In the words of Al Bundy, “You can’t have one without the other!” The crime in our community is directly linked to poverty, which stems from a lack of advancement and opportunity for marginalized individuals. This cycle repeats as parents are overworked, underpaid, and stressed in a constant struggle for survival. We need career opportunities as holiday charity. Instead of toy trucks, we need career opportunities for Giving Tuesdays, rather than endless roundtable discussions about recurring problems. A career is the gift that keeps on giving. A promotion that recognizes those of us who have invested time in acquiring new skills and have spent years developing transferable skills can make a world of difference. For many families, ending poverty is just one job offer away.

While we will still be taking emergency applications for unhoused families, the Red Cross, CHOICES, etc. the Charity Newsies general assistance application is now closed. Three years and prior, we were able to keep the clothing assistance application open into December to serve up to 15,000 children. Two years ago, we reached our budgetary goal of 15,000 children right before Thanksgiving. Last year, we reached 15,000 on August 15 before Columbus City Schools even opened. We scrambled and raised money and bought clothes to reach 18,000, which we did on September 18. This year, we opened on July 29 planning to serve 18,000 children. As of 9:38 a.m. morning, August 15, 18 days since opening the application, we have hit our budgeted amount of 18,000 children scheduled to receive clothing or who have already picked up clothing.

Homelessness in the West Midlands, including Warwickshire, has been increasing due to rising housing costs and limited access to affordable housing. From 2023-24, there was a 12.3% rise in households assessed as homeless or at risk, with approximately 178,560 households requiring immediate assistance across England, including a significant portion in the West Midlands. For Warwickshire specifically, organizations emphasize proactive intervention, from financial aid and rent deposit schemes to mental health support for those vulnerable to homelessness. However, resource constraints remain a challenge for both statutory and voluntary agencies in effectively managing homelessness (especially rough sleeping) across the county. That's why Kare Plus Kenilworth want to support those who are in need this winter by collecting donations at Kare Plus Kenilworth, 23 Talisman Square, Kenilworth, CV8 1JB. #karepluskenilworth #supportingthehomeless #helpthevulnerable
📢 This winter, Kare Plus Kenilworth is collecting essential donations for local homeless shelters across Warwickshire and the West Midlands. Drop off your contributions from 10 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday, at 23 Talisman Square, Kenilworth, CV8 1JB. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those in need! 🌨️🧣 #Warwickshire #SupportTheHomeless #WarmWinter

There are many ways to help hungry people, depending on your resources and location. Here are some ideas: 1. *Donate to food banks*: Food banks collect and distribute food to those in need. You can search for food banks in your area and donate non-perishable items or funds. 2. *Volunteer at a soup kitchen*: Soup kitchens provide meals for people who are struggling to afford food. You can volunteer your time to help serve meals or prepare food. 3. *Support food-related charities*: Consider donating to organizations that work to address hunger and food insecurity, such as Feeding America or the World Food Programme. 4. *Offer to buy groceries or meals*: If you know someone who is struggling to afford food, offer to buy them groceries or meals. 5. *Advocate for policies that address hunger*: You can contact your local representatives and express support for policies that address hunger

At Turn2Me, we want to inform the public that we never conduct door-to-door fundraising. Unfortunately, we have received reports from the Cork area about a man claiming to represent Turn2Me. He has been described as being in his 40s, of medium height, with dark greying, gelled hair. This individual has been going door-to-door, asking for donations, and even wearing a lanyard with our logo, awards, and charity number to appear legitimate. We want to make it absolutely clear: this person is not affiliated with Turn2Me in any way. Our Commitment to Safe Giving Turn2Me values your safety and peace of mind. We never ask for cash donations or tap-to-donate contributions at your door. All donations to Turn2Me are accepted through our secure website, Turn2Me.ie, or trusted fundraising platforms like iDonate and JustGiving. How You Can Help If you encounter this individual or anyone engaging in similar activity: Do not provide any money or personal information. Report the incident to us at info@turn2me.org We have reported this matter to the Gardaí and are working to ensure this individual is identified and stopped. A Final Note At Turn2Me, we rely on the generosity of our community to continue offering free mental health services. If you wish to support us, please donate safely through Turn2Me.ie Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Together, we can ensure your contributions go directly towards helping those in need. #alifelineonline #alert #donate #safety #mentalhealth

“Small, but mighty” is something that couldn’t resonate with us more at Lewisham Donation Hub 💪 This week is #SmallCharityWeek and a time to celebrate the impact that small charities, like us, have on lives and communities. We may not be a team of 1000s, but we support 1000s - and we couldn’t do it without the tireless efforts of our volunteers and the generous donations of individuals and companies. In the last 4 years, we have helped over 1,300 households in London. Support has included everything from food and toiletries, through to electrical items and clothing. This week, we’re proud to pledge alongside NCVO to show our LOVE for small charities: L - Listen and Learn: I will learn what small charities do in my neighbourhood. 0 - Organise: I will get my community involved with small charities. V - Volunteer: I will support small charities with my time, voice and money. E - Engage: I will do a bit more to make my community better. #LoveYourSmallCharity #SmallCharityWeek2024

Charity Spotlight: Shelter The team at Shelter believe that a home is a fundamental right - it’s the foundation on which our lives are built, it opens the door to employment, health, education, and it’s the basis of strong communities. Every 10 minutes in England, another family loses their home. Shelter are here 365 days a year to help them find them safe, secure places to live. With every payday gift you give, you can help make this vital work possible. Payroll giving is the most tax-efficient way to donate to charity, allowing you to help people at risk of homelessness every time you’re paid. For example, a £10 a month donation would only cost you £8. This is because payroll-giving donations are deducted before tax, so we receive more money at no extra cost to you.
