Why does mental health in the workplace matter? Because mental health challenges are more common than you might think. In the UK alone, 70 million workdays are lost each year due to mental health issues. That’s a staggering impact on productivity, well-being, and team morale. At any given time, 1 in 6 adults in England between 16 and 64 are experiencing a mental health problem. Whether it’s a colleague, a friend, or even ourselves, mental health affects us all. It's time to break the silence. By prioritising mental health awareness in the workplace, we can create supportive environments that benefit everyone. Ready to take action and make a difference in your organisation? Make Mental Health and Wellbeing a Global Priority... Every year, on 10th October, we come together to celebrate World Mental Health Day. This year’s theme, set by the World Federation of Mental Health, focuses on a crucial part of our lives: mental health in the workplace. Creating supportive work environments that prioritise mental wellbeing isn’t just beneficial for individuals - it’s essential for the health of organisations and communities too. With stress, depression, or anxiety accounting for 17.1 million sick days in 2022/23 (almost three times more than the next highest proportion of sick days, which is 6.6 million for musculoskeletal disorders), we need to talk about what happens when work isn’t working. It’s a powerful reminder that taking care of our minds is key to thriving in both our personal and professional lives. Today, we join the global community for World Mental Health Day! This year’s theme is prioritising mental health in the workplace. Looking after our mental health is just as important as physical health and it's vital that we take care of ourselves and each other. Whether it's through talking to a friend, seeking professional help, or simply taking a moment to relax and unwind. I think its key to raise awareness and reduce stigma. It's ok to ask for help and it's ok to not be ok. What do you do to ensure you look after your mental wellbeing in the workplace? #WorldMentalHealthDay #AMS
