Queenstown Airport is proud to have entered the global Airport Carbon Accreditation programme at Level 4+ 'Transition'. Since undertaking our first carbon audit in 2019, we have reduced our operational absolute emissions by 71% and are targeting an 85% reduction by 2028. That progress is based on a commitment to electrification, transition to a certified renewable electricity supply, upgrading of assets and infrastructure to increase efficiency, and a decision to stop using a diesel generator for supplementary power during periods of peak demand. Aviation is a challenging industry to decarbonise. We've set ambitious sustainability targets and invested heavily to reduce our carbon footprint as quickly as possible, although there is a lot more work to be done. We are now setting our sights on Level 5, which is the highest tier in the ACA programme. It outlines strategic pathways, #technologicaladvancements, and #policy recommendations necessary to scale up e-SAF production and usage, which is essential for achieving Europe’s #climatetargets. Key Insights Importance of e-SAF for Decarbonization: The report emphasizes that e-SAF, which is produced using #renewableelectricity and #CO₂, has significant potential to cut down #aviationemissions. Given the limited near-term options for #decarbonizing aviation, e-SAF stands out as a viable solution that can be adopted within current #aircraft #technologies and #infrastructure. This collaboration can accelerate innovation, support infrastructure development, and drive broader adoption of e-SAF. Earlier this year, I had the honour of joining Paul Polman and Marjan Rintel as co-chair of Project SkyPower, an urgent initiative dedicated to making e-SAF (electro-sustainable aviation fuel) a commercial reality in Europe within this decade.    Few industries face a more complex transition away from fossil fuels than aviation. To achieve a lower-emissions future and meet the increasingly stringent fuel mandates in the UK and EU, unlocking the potential of e-SAF is critical. Project SkyPower aims to drive that progress, and I’m proud to be part of this mission, leveraging Arcadia eFuels' expertise in developing commercial-scale e-SAF production facilities across Europe. With the dedication and expertise of our members from across the aviation value chain, we are poised to deliver tangible impact.    The action plan published today sets out what needs to happen to get first-of-a-kind projects in Europe to final investment decision before the end of next year and operational by 2030, tipping the technology behind e-SAF to scale. Beyond the obvious climate benefits of a lower-emissions fuel, a thriving e-SAF sector could create jobs, attract future investment and build trust that our industries can transform themselves for a new, more sustainable world. Fly Green Alliance (FGA) - travel & transport has contributed to Net Zero 2035 plans for Wales. FGA’s CEO Sarah Wilkin discusses “We are pleased to have been invited as aviation experts to contribute to Wales’ net zero plans. Wales’ Future Generation Act is world leading and now by majority vote is being adopted by member states globally through the United Nations at their recent 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Wales has an opportunity as a mobility hub to lead the way in renewables and low carbon travel. We very much look forward to working alongside Future Generation’s Chair Jane Davidson and team to embed this important work further and support Wales and the UK to advance carbon reduction targets”. European aviation leaders have launched Project SkyPower, a coalition of over 50 companies, to accelerate the production of e-SAF and meet EU and UK mandates by 2050. The question remains - will the industry be able to lower production costs and bridge the investment gap, making e-SAF a viable solution in the next 25 years?

We discuss the efforts and achievements of Christchurch International Airport Limited to transform its institutional culture, exercise sustainability leadership, reduce emissions, introduce new technologies, and plan for a renewable energy transition. Aviation is, of course, a hard to abate sector, and that is precisely why I have been so excited to see a major transport infrastructure company embrace the challenges of change for a climate-resilient future in a sincere and concerted way.
