Indeed, when women have the means to secure a home of their own, it unlocks tangible economic opportunities for them. It enables women to establish a credit history in their names. It gives them collateral for future loans. It even gives them a place from which to run a business.   I am proud to say that through the Housing Finance for Women initiative, IFC has reached $1 billion in funding to financial institutions for mortgages for women in less than four years. This includes 11 investment projects in 6 countries.
