#2024Highlights: Strengthening Partnerships for Community Impact This year, several of our renewable energy projects had the privilege of hosting delegates from the Economic Development Department of the IPP Office, led by Mr. Lazarus Mahlangu. During their visit, they had the opportunity to engage with beneficiaries of our economic development programmes, gaining firsthand insights into the positive impact of our initiatives. Mr. Mahlangu commended the sustainability of our Enterprise Development projects, particularly the strategic planning around effective exit strategies that ensure long-term benefits for local communities. The visit highlighted the alignment between our goals and the broader national objectives of the IPPPP, which focus on job creation, social upliftment, and broadening economic ownership. A few of the most noteworthy headlines: We hosted a site visit for our 50 impact investors, 30 federal agency representatives, and more key stakeholders. We’ve hit major milestones in our Anpetu Wi Wind Farm, we won a grant from the Department of Energy and  installed 5 met mast towers to date. We launched a new project, the Business Service Center to consolidate key services and a coffee shop into a single hub. 👏 Fund Advisors announced to support North Wales green energy 💚 We’re thrilled to share that UMi, alongside WCVA, has been appointed to prepare and mobilise the Clean Energy Fund, which will launch next year! 💚 💷 The project, part of the North Wales Growth Deal, will allocate £25m via loans and grants to support initiatives which help achieve renewable energy and decarbonisation targets 🍃 The fund will comprise of two sub-funds: 1️⃣ WCVA | CGGC will work in conjunction with Ynni Cymunedol Cymru | Community Energy Wales on a voluntary sector sub-fund. 2️⃣ UMi will be leading the sub-fund targeting the private sector. Grong Grong, a tiny town 5 1/2 hours' drive west of Sydney, has landed insurance giant IAG as its biggest customer. This vindicates its investors’ vision and highlights the untapped capacity of small-scale community suppliers. The six-year deal with IAG begins next year and will account for almost all of Grong Grong’s output. However, solar farms like Grong Grong, which fly below the radar, also represent a large opportunity to plug renewable power into the system. One of the many ingredients that contributed to Grong Grong’s success was its Goldilocks sizing: not too big, not too small. It fits in the sweet spot between one and five megawatts. That’s big enough to generate a commercial supply but, critically, small enough to exempt it from the controls that the Australian Energy Market Operator applies to larger generators. Another advantage to its smaller size is that the solar farm connects directly to the electricity distribution system rather than through the transmission system. Community + business = electrifying results ⚡ We're helping 24 awesome Kiwi community groups with their electrification projects through our Community Decarbonisation Fund. And it's all made possible through our Certified Renewable Energy customers, because all the proceeds from Certified are used to support these incredible community electrification projects. By providing new EVs, solar panels, battery packs and more - the fund means that community organisations around NZ can join the electrification push, without having to divert funds from their vital community work.
