🆘️ “When a woman is trapped in an abusive situation, she needs help so she can crawl out of it" - Dike Chukwumerije 🎙Let's throw it back to the Womanity Index launch where Dike Chukwumerije delivered a thought-provoking spoken word performance that captured the struggles faced by women and girls in a patriarchal world. Through his powerful presentation, Dike explored themes like sexual harassment, early marriage, and physical violence—highlighting the dangers that women endure in a society where discrimination is often normalized. ❗️He concluded with a compelling call to action, reminding every stakeholder and institution of the age-long proverbial adage: It takes a village to raise a child. He urged us to create a village that is not only nurturing but also safe—a village that ensures the safety of every woman. These attitudes against women persist today, manifested in various forms such as gender-based inequality, the gender pay gap, domestic and sexual violence, female genocide, rape culture, and female genital mutilation. In 2024, a disturbing reality exists with the emergence of a Family Court underworld that has capitalized on a woman's vulnerability and her innate need to protect her children, highlighting a concerning trend where the law seems to operate above ethical boundaries. Additionally, a corporate culture further victimizes women through nonsupportive workplace management practices. Just like our grandmothers who endured abusive marriages to raise their children, we too navigate raising our children amidst injustices and unempathetic practices. #mylivedexperience #GenderEquality #FamilyCourt #WomensRights #SocialJustice

Day 2 of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV)– Defining GBV. Gender-based violence (GBV) is a global issue that remains the most widespread and persistent human rights violation in the world. It refers to any harmful act that is perpetrated against an individual based on their gender and is often rooted in unequal power structures and gender norms that reinforce discrimination. GBV can take various forms, including but not limited to: physical violence, psychological abuse, sexual violence, economic abuse, and verbal mistreatment. The defining characteristic of GBV is its gendered nature. While men and boys can also be victims, women, girls, and marginalized groups are disproportionately affected. For thousands of women and girls, these cycles of violence result in an act called femicide – the deliberate killing of a woman or girl because of her gender. Five essential facts to know about femicide: https://lnkd.in/e23dsMKu #NoExcuse #16daysofactivism #GBV #UNWomen #16days

The statistics reveal a stark truth: 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men in the UK experience domestic violence. On this Human Rights Day, it's essential to acknowledge that women globally are often the primary victims of such heinous acts. They encounter challenges ranging from denied education to fatal outcomes and sexual violence. The depth of struggles women endure underscores a society's level of civilization based on how it protects and respects its women. The journey towards equality and safety remains ongoing. #16daysofactionagainstdomesticviolence #humanrightsday #16days #thefemaleemalLead Female Founders Rise The Female Quotient Anne Boden

The death of a woman occurs every ten minutes. Violence affects nearly one in three women at some point in their lives. In 2023, gender-based violence led to the murder of at least 48,000 women. 736 million women worldwide are thought to have been victims of physical or sexual abuse. Most women do not report violent crimes against them because of stigma, shame, and being silenced. If nothing changes and those responsible are not held accountable, equality and women's rights will continue to suffer. The UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign aims to highlight the devastating increase in gender-based violence. Every woman is entitled to a sense of security. #NoExcuse You can read more here > https://ow.ly/FgAE50UeTWY.

We would like to say a few words about the significance of November 25th which we believe is an important day for #mentalhealth, #psychology, #criminology and other professionals who strive to protect the mental health of individuals, groups and communities and to strengthen their #wellbeing. It marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and the first day of the #16days of activism to end gender-based violence as you all know. Three sisters Patria, Minerva and Maria Teresa Mirabal who fought against the oppressive regime in the Dominican Republic were murdered on November 25, 1960. The United Nations designed this day as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women in 1999. The theme for this year’s campaign is "#NoExcuse. UNiTE to End Violence against Women". Nearly 1 in 3 women have been abused in their lifetime. The incidents of violence against transgender people have surged by 11% in just one year, and overall hate crimes based on sexual orientation have increased by 112% over the past five years. In 2024, approximately 15 million girls aged 15-19 have experienced forced sex, with many cases remaining unreported, and around 230 million girls and women are affected by female genital mutilation worldwide. Despite these incidents, the 16 days of activism remind us that change is possible when we stand #together. #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #ActivismAgainstGenderBasedViolence
