As someone deeply passionate about protecting the most vulnerable, Helene and Milton are a reminder of how critical it is to take action when disaster strikes. Natural disasters don’t just bring destruction - they create an environment where abusers and traffickers can exploit the chaos. Please take a moment to read this week’s blog. #ChildProtection #SafetyInDisaster #GriffGroup #ProtectingTheVulnerable
Protecting the Vulnerable In Times of Crisis At Griff Group, safeguarding the most vulnerable is not just a part of what we do, it's at the heart of everything we do. Our commitment to this cause is unwavering. In times of crisis, such as natural disasters, the urgency of protecting children from heightened risks of exploitation and trafficking becomes even more pronounced. In this week's two-part blog, we explore how chaos and disruption make it easier for abusers to exploit children. For example, after Hurricane Katrina, a Baton Rouge shelter reported that 57% of youth qualified as domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST) survivors. Understanding these dangers and implementing preventative measures is crucial to ensuring child safety. Our team at Griff Group is here to provide the necessary guidance and support, with professionalism, trust, and an unwavering dedication to protecting vulnerable populations. Read the full blog to learn how we can all take steps to prevent these threats. #ChildSafety #CrisisPrevention #TrustAndSecurity #GriffGroup #ProtectingTheVulnerable https://lnkd.in/dr_2q_Rg

Boby Founders welcome and backstory Safety shouldn't be a luxury. It should be a basic right. It is actually one of the four fundamental basic rights. Hello, I'm the founder of Boby. My name's Brandon. My story begins on a farm an hour outside of Johannesburg in South Africa. I was just 14 years old and my family faced a terrifying ordeal. A former farm worker fired for animal abuse began to terrorise us. It started with stolen livestock, then escalated to attacks on our dogs. The message was clear. We were next. For three months we lived in this constant fear. My father armed himself with a Glock 38 and stood watch at night. This wasn't just about us, other families in the district were afraid as well. When we moved to Australia I thought I'd left all this fear behind. Australia is by comparison an incredibly safe country. But I soon realised that even here, fear still exists. Through the eyes of my partner and my mother, I saw that many people, especially women, live with a constant undercurrent of fear when they're alone. This fear isn't limited to adults. We're seeing more and more people carrying knives, believing they need them for protection. You know, it's a cascading event of violence to prevent violence. If these young people felt safe, they wouldn't feel a need to arm themselves. The cycle of fear and violence is what we need to break. I think we have the solution. That's why I created Boby. Boby is about looking out for each other as a community. It's about reviving the spirit of Neighbourhood Watch, but with modern technology and organisation. Here's how it works. Residents become the eyes and ears of their community. We call them Peelers. This is a tongue in cheek, um, nod and honour to Sir Robert Peel, the founder of modern policing in the UK. Using the Boby app, Peelers, as we call them, can report their concerns or suspicious activity in real time. These reports are received by our network of trained special agents. These are security officers, which we call special agents, or security professionals who live in the same community. This local connection is crucial. Our special agents know the area, they understand the community, and they can respond quickly to any concerns. Basically a work from home for security officers, if you like. The fundamental goal of Boby is simple. To create freedom from fear. One of the four fundamental human rights. By fostering a sense of community and providing the tools for neighbours to look out for each other, we make our neighbourhoods less attractive targets for crime. I invite you to join this mission. Download the Boby app. This can be found on the Play Store and the App Store. Become a Peeler today. Visit our website at getboby.ai, to learn more about how you can contribute to the safer community living. Together we can build a world where everyone feels safe in their own neighbourhood.

https://lnkd.in/g_TkX53Q Alberta is currently facing a significant challenge in public safety, with a 20% vacancy rate for RCMP officers. Of the 1,911 officers authorized by the federal government, only 1,522 are currently serving the province. This shortage, coupled with the rise in homeless encampments, has led to increased loitering, trespassing, and public nuisance incidents, which strain the already limited resources of the RCMP. As local businesses threaten to close their doors due to these escalating concerns, Apex Security's Public Security Unit is stepping up to fill the gap and help our communities tackle these growing safety issues.

Many communities throughout the Caribbean are facing an array of risks, from devastating natural disasters to everyday health and safety hazards. In Barbados, the Bajan Fire Fighters’ Network (BFFN) is using KoboToolbox to identify community safety risks and strengthen prevention strategies. By using KoboCollect to conduct risk assessments in the field, BFFN can make informed, data-driven decisions to address potential dangers, efficiently distribute resources, and build safer communities. Through BFFN’s dedication to enriching and enhancing the lives of those they serve, local communities have a greater understanding of specific risks and concrete actions needed to strengthen their safety and increase resilience. In the future, BFFN plans to continue using KoboToolbox to identify potential hazards and reduce risks through community outreach and prevention activities. This is a great article from Dan that focuses on what is really going on in the response to Helene and now Milton.

I have submitted this rebuttal to Senator Vance's Opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal. This is not about politics for me. This is about providing honest information to and for survivors, first responders, and emergency managers, to include dedicated FEMA employees. They deserve nothing less. #FEMA #misinformation #disinformation #helene #milton #WSJ

In a time when misinformation is used to score political points, it’s important to hear the facts and share them.
