🎉 Today Marks 16 Years of Invisible People Changing the Story of Homelessness 🎉 For 16 years, Invisible People has led the charge to change how the world understands homelessness—long before anyone else. Through the power of storytelling, we’ve touched billions of lives, influencing perceptions and driving the push for real solutions. But now, we face an urgent challenge: donations are down 46%, even as the need for our work has never been greater. Despite this, we remain 100% committed to amplifying the authentic stories of homelessness and fighting for policies that create real change. To celebrate this milestone, we’re asking for your support: a one-time gift of $16 to honor 16 years of impact or a monthly donation of $16 or any amount to power our work year-round. Invisible People is powered by you. Your support makes everything we do possible. Together, we can fight against harmful narratives, influence policy, and advocate for real solutions to homelessness. I'm reaching out to my my LinkedIn connections to help out an organization in Fort Worth, WhenWeLove.com. The weather is changing and they are in need of help. Below is a post from their Facebook page ... anything you can give will help them with sheltering those in need. And it is a great need this week with the freezing temps. There are ways to give below or use the link on their website. I appreciate your consideration and so does Gary Wilkerson. *************************************************************************** You may remember seeing these photo's along with our request to help us meet the very real financial need as 2024 was coming to an end. If you chose to read any of the posts (they were all basically the same), then you already know that 2024 was a very tough year for us. We saw a 40% decline in financial support (over 50% in December alone), a 30% increase in expenses for essential services and cost of goods, and a substantial increase in demand for services; we were asking our 3,200 followers to "BE OUR CHRISTMAS MIRACLE". 2024 has come and gone and we did NOT meet this NEED. While we were having one of the toughest years we had experienced since before the Covid Pandemic, we managed to serve over 13,347 people experiencing homelessness by providing basic necessities (food, water, emergency overflow sheltering, clothing, etc). This number does not include the 667 families we served through our #makeitahome program, or the 1,619 new beds we provided to parents and their children. The number does not include the 160 Thanksgiving baskets families received, or the 207 families (541 kids) who had their Wish Lists filled for Christmas. It doesn't reflect the 187 Veterans we served; ALL SERVED even though we ourselves were struggling to keep our doors open. Tonight we start the emergency sheltering operations due to frigid temperatures and the possibility of rain/snow/ice over the next two weeks. We NEED YOUR HELP!! THE NEED IS CRITICAL!! Every day, systemic inequities force Native American and Black families into impossible choices. Generations of housing discrimination, unjust policies, and economic exclusion have left too many of our neighbors without a safe place to call home. For families experiencing homelessness, the impact is devastating—children struggle in school, parents face barriers to stability, and dreams are deferred for yet another generation. But we believe in the power of community. We believe in justice. We believe every family deserves not just shelter, but the dignity, stability, and hope that comes with having a home. This year, we have an opportunity to create lasting change. Your donation helps us open doors for BIPOC families, providing safe, climate-resilient housing where they can heal, rebuild, and thrive. Don’t wait until Giving Tuesday to make a difference. Help us reach our year-end goal today—because no family should have to wait for a safe place to call home. Donate now: www.just-homes.org Share this post to amplify the mission. Together, we can ensure justice and housing for all. #YourSupportOpensDoors #HousingIsJustice #BIPOCHousingMatters #DonateToday #JustHomes #oakland #California #unhoused #Bipoc

November is National Homeless Awareness Month, a time to acknowledge the struggles faced by young people, families, and individuals at risk of or experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. This also includes National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (November 15-22), a chance to spotlight these critical issues impacting our communities. At BEDS Plus, we’ve seen firsthand how the housing crisis continues to grow, affecting more people in the places where we live and work. Over the past year, BEDS Plus has helped change the lives of more than 5,000 people, offering essential services, support, and paths to stability. But this mission is ongoing—thousands more in our area need support, and we are committed to providing it with the help of dedicated volunteers and donors. As we enter the season of giving, we invite you to join us. You can make a difference by volunteering or donating to BEDS Plus. Let’s bring hope and stability to our community's most vulnerable together. 👉 Sign up to volunteer: https://lnkd.in/g3b6nH4s 👉 Donate to support: Donate to BEDS Plus https://lnkd.in/eKQXM65 #HomelessYouthAwarenessMonth #EndHomelessness #HungerAndHomelessnessWeek #BEDSPlus #GiveBack #CommunitySupport #Volunteer #Donate #HousingCrisis #MakeADifference #SeasonOfGiving

Today marks #WorldHomelessDay. In the latest Point-in-Count survey findings, CFTH found: - 45% of unsheltered persons were homeless for the first time (up from 42% in 2023). - 32% of unsheltered persons (a plurality) cited the loss of a job or income as the primary cause of their homelessness. - People who are Black or African American are disproportionately represented; they make up 62% of the population experiencing homelessness in the region but only 21% of the total population of Harris County. - 78% of unsheltered persons are male. - 89% of unsheltered persons first fell into homelessness in Houston. - More than 9,700 people were living in a housing program of The Way Home on the night of Jan. 22, 2024. - More than 32,000 people have been placed in permanent housing (Permanent Supportive Housing or Rapid Re-Housing) through The Way Home since 2012. Although we have done good work, there’s plenty more to get done! I’m excited to be part of a team that’s pragmatic, strategic, and rooted in data. #Adelante
On October 10th, we observe World Homeless Day to bring attention to homelessness and the need for adequate housing. 🏠🌍 Did you know that more than 3,200 people experience homelessness across Harris, Fort Bend, and Montgomery counties every night? CFTH plays a key role as the designated coordinator for The Way Home, Houston’s homeless response system. Since 2011, we've reduced homelessness by over 60%, housed 32,000+ individuals, and gained national recognition for our efforts—thanks to our partners, team, and donors like you. 💪🤝 This World Homeless Day, join us in our commitment towards a future where everyone in our community has a safe place to call home. 🏡❤️ Click the link to donate and support our mission: https://lnkd.in/dMxwA4eX

Did you know that over 38,000 young people aged 15–24 years presented alone to a homelessness service in 2022–23? Of these young people, almost half experienced mental ill-health, and over one-third experienced domestic and family violence. Most of these young people needed short- or long-term accommodation, and most were turned away due to a lack of capacity. These statistics only scratch the surface of issues that young people experiencing homelessness face. To have statistics like this in a country like Australia is not acceptable; together, we can have a tangible impact, and now is the time to act. #wehavetodobetter #YHMD

Last night, I slept outside in freezing weather to raise awareness for youth experiencing homelessness. Covenant House Alaska provides shelter and support for 200 young people every night. Tragically, some who can’t access these services are forced to take desperate measures—like sleeping in cemeteries and using tombstones to shield themselves from the freezing winds. So far, we’ve raised nearly $10.5K toward our $15K goal, and I want to thank everyone who has already generously donated. Your support means so much and is making a real difference. Please consider donating through https://lnkd.in/ggaicFrv or sharing this post with someone who might be able to help. Even the smallest contribution can make a big impact! This was my second year participating, and even as a lifelong Alaskan, it’s mentally and physically taxing to prepare for a night outdoors in the wind, snow, or freezing temperatures. Even with state-of-the-art gear, access to a bathroom, and knowing this experience ends when I wake up, it’s still tough. I can’t imagine what it’s like to live this reality every day with no end in sight. Many people want to address homelessness but don’t realize that up to 50% of homeless adults started as homeless youth. I’ve already donated $2.5K to this campaign. If we can reach $12.5K by Friday, 11/29, I’ll contribute another $2.5K. Together, we can make a meaningful difference for these young people.
