37 million commercial overnight stays in 2023 translates to a healthy 5% increase compared to 2019!🥳 Norway saw a continuous month-by-month increase in foreign overnight stays from April 2023, peaking in December, with 11% growth over 2019. The dominant region was Oslo, with 24% of all overnight stays in December, followed by Bergen, ever-growing Tromsø, Trondheim and Stavanger. Surprisingly, sixth place for December went to the skiing destination of Hallingdal, with 5% of all commercial overnight stays for the month⛷ German guests made for the largest nationality in December. With 12% of all foreign overnight stays, they beat Great Britain and USA who came in second with 11% each. Third spot was shared by Denmark and Sweden, both representing 10% of overnight stays. Would you swim in your city's river? Well we in Dublin do, with the annual Liffey Swim. But would it pass the Paris Olympic swim test? One of our biggest sources of river pollutants is run off from city streets. How about we turn the city into a green sponge with riverside planted areas to intercept run off? Remove traffic from the Quays. Just do it. Fixed floating islands to filter pollutants, oxygenate water and return nature to the river? Access to the river for city swimmers. It has been done by Urban Rivers in Chicago and there are big plans in Berlin Flussbad Berlin e.V. . It means major investment in our water infrastructure but just imagine.
