Most people in Nepal are unaware that climate change has an impact on their sexual health, and these issues are not of main concern to them. Extreme weather events (such as landslides and floods) often disrupt health facilities and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services, highlighting the need for climate-resilient infrastructure. The effect of climate change on women’s sexual and reproductive health is petrifying. This Ipas article on the impact of climate change on sexual and reproductive health in Nepal brings me back to one of The Case for Her for Her’s first big projects. We spent three years looking at menstrual health across Nepal with Population Services International and Maverick Collective by PSI and found that it was often a conversation starter about #SRHR with young girls. Now, climate change is making women more vulnerable to food insecurity and violence, and extreme weather disrupts access to essential needs like menstrual products, contraception, and safe abortion. This is not just happening in Nepal; it’s happening worldwide. Unfortunately, when disaster strikes, SRHR services are too often an afterthought. #MenstrualHealth #SRHR #ClimateChange https://lnkd.in/dCiy24SW

This #WorldHealthDay read how Young Lives’ evidence shows that, despite significant improvements in sexual and reproductive health in Ethiopia, inequalities and entrenched patriarchal norms continue to disadvantage adolescent girls and young women, particularly those from poor households and in rural areas. During a civil unrest and besiege of a nation, women and girls suffer terribly. The statistics are terrifying in the snapshot article of #Palestine, released by International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) this week. Isreal's war on Gaza is a gendered violence on the rights of women and girls. In the last 5 months: 🚩 Over 1 million women and girls cannot access sexual and reproductive health care (United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). 🚩 Women and girls make 70% or approximately 20,300 of the 29,000 deaths so far. 🚩 There is little to no access to hygiene, medicine, prenatal and post-natal care, and period supplies. 🚩 Women are forced to undergo c-section without anesthesia. Around 50,000 women were pregnant when the besiege started in October 2023. 🚩 Women and babies are sleeping on floors in the cold and are being deprived of their most simple and basic rights. This is unacceptable. This is aimless and targeted killing of women and girls that continues in the holy month of Ramadan and Easter. This is what genocide looks like. Stop the violence on women and girls now. Meta Post: https://lnkd.in/giJekhaz

In 1804, the world’s population reached 1 billion. ⬆️ 200 years later, in 2011, we reached 7 billion. ⬆️ Now, we’re at 7.9 billion. ⬆️ By 2030 our global population is expected to grow to 8.5 billion and by 2100, we may reach 10.9 billion. ⬆️ The number of people on this planet is increasing exponentially, driven by longer life expectancy, changes in fertility rates, and increasing urbanization. These megatrends in population affect economic development, employment, incomes distribution, poverty and social protections. Yesterday was World Population Day, an international day which focuses attention on the urgency and importance of population issues. More than 40% of women around the world, for example, cannot make decisions on sexual and reproductive health. In West and Central Africa, with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), we are addressing the barriers women and girls face in accessing reproductive health care. We’ll be developing an SBCC campaign to raise awareness and increase demand for sexual and reproductive health services and also address men who play a role in decision-making related to women’s reproductive health. #reproductivehealth #sbc #westcentralafrica
