Are there ways to bring better standards to the world of carbon crediting? I had the honor last week of speaking on a panel, hosted by NIST, on how national standards might be useful in the voluntary carbon markets. Wonderful thinkers there, including the organizer Pam Chu, are considering how NIST might help in that effort. It was a honor to be on the stage with Barbara Haya and Judy Savitskaya, two leaders in this space who also want to see good credits that really achieve climate goals - that's why we are all here. There are efforts - see the work by the ICVCM and CCQI, both of which are trying to do exactly that from the NGO space (and EDF has worked with both). It is a difficult problem to get the science AND the implementation right, but it's imperative that we do.
