On Sunday December 1st, it’s World Aids Day for the 37th time. Since World Health Organization started this yearly commemoration in 1988, World Aids Day provides a platform to raise awareness about the impact #HIV and #Aids still have on millions of people around the world. This year’s theme is 👉 ‘Take the rights path: My health, my right!’ This theme touches on the inequality in health care access as one of the major obstacles to end Aids as a public health threat by 2030. Much progress has been made in the last 20 years, but infections are on the rise. In 2023, an estimated 39.9 million people were living with HIV. Around 30.7 million of them were accessing retroviral therapy, meaning 9.2 million were not. Many of them are unaware of their HIV status. Approximately 630.000 people died from HIV-related causes that year and around 1.3 million people acquired HIV and will need to take medication for the rest of their life. The importance of #prevention is essential to end HIV by 2030. Luckily, the portfolio of preventive methods has expanded over the years. Options range from a pill to be taken daily, to long-acting injectable medicines that are an easier preventive method for people to take and keep up. Apretude, also known as CAB-LA, a 2-month long-acting preventive cabotegravir injectable, developed by ViiV Healthcare, has so far been approved only in a few countries in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). i+solutions is procuring CAB-LA under The Global Fund’s Pooled Procurement Mechanism for Uganda, Cambodia, Nigeria and Ethiopia. The first shipment of CAB-LA has arrived last week at The Medical Export Group BV, i+solutions’ warehousing partner in the Netherlands, from where the deliveries are made. We are proud to contribute in our small way to increase access to preventive HIV medication. 📢 Health is a universal human right. We need to protect that right always everywhere. UNAIDS published a report about the importance of protecting everyone’s rights, in order to protect everyone’s health. World AIDS Day Today, on World AIDS Day, we honor the progress made and reflect on the road ahead. The fight against HIV/AIDS has come a long way, from devastating losses to the hope that science and compassion bring. We’ve seen incredible advancements in medication, prevention, and education, but the work is far from over. The truth remains: if you’re not infected, you’re still affected. HIV impacts families, communities, and societies. We all have a role to play in breaking the stigma, encouraging testing, and supporting access to life-saving medication. Let’s hope for a future where no child is born with HIV, where there’s zero transmission, and where HIV/AIDS is eliminated altogether. That hope starts with action today. I encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect, get tested, support ongoing research, and advocate for zero discrimination. Together, we can create a world of zero new infections, zero stigma, and zero deaths. Take the step. Share the message. Be the hope. #WorldAIDSDay #EndHIV #ZeroHIV #HealthForAll

WORLD AIDS DAY 2024! Theme: Take the Rights Path: My Health, My Right. Standing with everyone who has lost a loved one to AIDS, living with HIV/AIDS, and their care takers including the health workforce around the globe whose tireless efforts ensure linkage and access to quality HIV/AIDS services. This year’s theme was carefully selected to ensure accessible, rights-based health care that empowers those affected by HIV/AIDS to live a vibrant and fulfilling life. However, countries need to work harder to ensure the health-care systems are responsive to this theme while scaling up the positive learnings from rights-based health healthcare systems and addressing the existing gaps that affect equity and inclusive access to care. In 2023, there were 39.9 million people globally living with HIV, and 1.3 million new infections were reported. This indicates the need for greater efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS if countries are to meet their elimination targets by 2030. This week, I will join the MOH Malawi as the launch their Community Health Services Package and the Community Health Acceleration Plan -believing that strengthening community health systems is key to improving access to HIV/AIDS services.

Approaches to managing #HIV have come leaps and bounds over the past few years and goals such as HIV #cure or #elimination are now more attainable than ever. Achieving such aims requires a precise and targeted strategy across various disciplines. To help define and prioritise these approaches, #VistaHealth collaborated with Abbott in developing a white paper entitled "Strengthening HIV Care and Management: APAC’S Path to Progress”. The white paper outlines critical barriers and proposes actionable strategies to strengthen HIV care and improve patient outcomes via innovative diagnostic tests. Developing a comprehensive multi-stakeholder approach in the region is critical to achieving this and ensuring the scalability and accessibility of testing technologies. We at Vista Health are dedicated to bridging the last-mile gaps of the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets and helping to achieve the ultimate goal of ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030. Quoting UNAIDS, “If there is one lesson that the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us, it is that pandemics can’t be ended anywhere until they are ended everywhere”. In commemoration of this year's World AIDS Day, we reckon the tremendous progress made towards addressing the AIDS pandemic globally, particularly in Nigeria. These efforts have greatly contributed to a significant reduction in the burden and mortality of HIV/AIDS. Counting these gains, it is important we think about the sustainability of HIV programming, especially in Nigeria and other sub-Saharan nations. We must also not lose sight of other related diseases chiefly Viral hepatitis and STIs. An integrated approach to achieve Triple Elimination needs to be strengthened across the sub-region. Viral hepatitis has long been neglected and this may undermine the gains made so far. #TripleElimination #WorldAIDSDay #HIV #Hepatitis #Syphilis #Sustainability #Elimination UNAIDS The Global Fund World Health Organization The World Hepatitis Alliance Hepatitis B Foundation national aids sti control programme nascp Abbott

🌍 Reflecting on World AIDS Day 2024 🌟 Yesterday, we came together globally to honor World AIDS Day—a day to reflect on the progress made in the fight against HIV/AIDS and to acknowledge the work still ahead. Advances in the field have been transformative: reliable rapid tests, effective treatments, and expanded prevention options are now saving lives worldwide. Yet, the statistics remind us of the critical need for continued action: * Globally, nearly 40 million people were living with HIV in 2023. * 1.3 million people became newly infected with the virus last year (UNAIDS). These numbers underscore the importance of addressing the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) perpetuating health disparities. After 8+ years working with people living with HIV or at risk of becoming HIV positive, I am more dedicated than ever to addressing SDOH. My passion lies in breaking down barriers like poverty, housing instability, limited access to healthcare, and stigma—ensuring that everyone has access to life-saving care and support systems that promote wellness and dignity. As we move forward, let’s continue to advocate for policies and practices that advance health equity. Together, we can realize the vision of an HIV-free world and ensure no one is left behind. 💬 What actions or programs have inspired you in this fight? Let’s continue the conversation. #WorldAIDSDay #HealthEquity #EndTheEpidemic #SDOH #CDC #HIV #AIDS

Today is #WorldAIDSDay, an international day dedicated to raising awareness about the #AIDS pandemic caused by the #HIV infection. This year's theme is : “𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵: 𝗠𝘆 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵, 𝗠𝘆 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁!” In the 1980s, early AIDS activists were advocating for the right of people living with HIV to participate in decision-making regarding the management of the HIV virus and AIDS. This movement led to the Greater Involvement of People with HIV (#GIPA) principle, which promotes the 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝗜𝗩 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗜𝗗𝗦 (World Health Organization). The early movement of AIDS activism laid the ground for the shift towards a more 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 and the recognition that key populations have a fundamental right to be involved in the policies that affect their lives. Today 39.9 million people around the world live with HIV. Their health is their right; it is our global community’s responsibility to ensure that they are empowered to make the correct and informed decisions about their health, to have access to #antiretroviraltherapy, and to have a say in shaping the AIDS and HIV response on a global, national and local level.
