🦠 A Powerful Ally Against Drug-Resistant Bacteria We saw a few news reports on tv about developing new antibiotics for drug-resistant bacteria over the weekend. Instead of developing more antibiotics, why not choose copper! Copper provides a natural defense by actively killing harmful bacteria within 2 hours of contact. This makes copper an essential part of infection prevention strategies in healthcare settings. Choosing the right ointment for wound care is vital for promoting healing and preventing complications. Different wounds have unique needs, so it's essential to consider factors like wound type, severity, and infection risk before applying an ointment. 🌟 ✔ Wound Type: Minor cuts and scrapes may require a basic antibiotic ointment, while burns or specialized injuries might need specific products designed for those wound types. ✔ Severity: Severe wounds or wounds with a high infection risk may need prescription-strength ointments. ✔ Infection Risk: When there’s a high risk of infection, opt for ointments with antibacterial properties to provide added protection. 💊 Today is European Antibiotic Awareness Day! 💊 This is a vital reminder of our collective responsibility to protect antibiotics for future generations. Together, we can make a difference. #EuropeanAntibioticAwarenessDay #Healthcare #InfectionPrevention #AntibioticAwareness
Today is European Antibiotic Awareness Day – an opportunity to remember that we all have a role to play in safeguarding antibiotics for the future. Antimicrobial resistance has long-term consequences for health and healthcare and these will be profound unless we take action. The two pillars of response are improving how we use antibiotics and improving infection prevention and control. Antibiotics are a valuable resource and should be used prudently to prevent and reduce antibiotic resistance. IPC 2025 will explore what we can do to mitigate this frequently dangerous infection. Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) is a dangerous bacterium, particularly in healthcare settings, causing severe diarrhea and colitis. It thrives after antibiotic treatments disrupt normal gut bacteria, making patients vulnerable to infection. C. diff spreads easily through spores, which survive on surfaces and resist many cleaning agents. High-risk groups include the elderly and immunocompromised, where infections can escalate to life-threatening conditions. Recurrences are common, and antibiotic resistance limits treatment options. #IPC2025 #Cdiff #infectioncontrol #nhsengland
