🎉 Day two of the #RSCPoster conference is underway, and I'm thrilled to share the latest updates from our poster presentation at the #OrtylPhotoLab group, Politechnika Krakowska im. Tadeusza Kościuszki. Continuing our journey in advancing regenerative medicine, today's spotlight is on our pioneering work in 3D printing porous materials tailored for bone regeneration. 🦴💡
Our research delves into the frontier of bone tissue engineering, where the quest for advanced regeneration techniques has led us to explore the potential of 3D printing technologies. Our study harnesses the power of Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology, leveraging zirconium oxide (ZrO2) nanoparticles to innovate the creation of high-resolution bioactive ceramic scaffolds.
Through meticulous experimentation, we have developed a specialized ceramic resin incorporating ZrO2 nanoparticles into a photocurable matrix comprising a blend of 1,6-Hexanediol diacrylate (HDDA) and Triacrylan trimetylolopropanu (TMPTA), enriched with a disperser and the photoinitiator Diphenyl 2,4,6 trimethyl (TPO).
The resulting porous 3D scaffolds, precisely crafted using the DLP technique (Lumen X, Cellink), undergo crucial post-printing processes of debinding and sintering to solidify the final ceramic structure. Our characterization efforts, employing techniques such as Differential Scanning Photo Calorimetry (Photo-DSC), Optical Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), have provided insights into the microstructure and phase composition of the scaffolds.
Notably, our innovative resin matrix displayed superior performance, yielding crack-free materials—a significant milestone in our journey. The integration of carefully tailored nano-composites within the HDDA/TMPTA resin matrix has resulted in the creation of porous materials with groundbreaking potential for bone tissue engineering.
These enhancements to the resin composition allow for high-precision DLP printing, producing scaffolds that mirror the mechanical robustness and structural integrity required for successful implantation. Moreover, our research underscores the promising biological compatibility of these scaffolds, paving the way for future clinical applications.
This work exemplifies the powerful synergy between state-of-the-art nanocomposite materials and 3D printing technologies, representing a significant advancement in the fabrication of biomimetic ceramic scaffolds for bone regeneration. Let's continue to push the boundaries of innovation and shape the future of regenerative medicine together! 💪🌟 #RSCPoster#RegenerativeMedicine#3DPrinting#Bioengineering#Innovation#RSCMAT#RSCNanoJoanna OrtylMagdalena Jankowska

The Open House turned into a much more significant event than I could have expected.
I started this project in my basement in 2014.
I moved into an empty building in downtown Stoughton, wi after a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2016.
I had my patent Granted in 2017.
Since then we've been expanding and improving the tech.
As time passed TVF expanded into a larger and larger portion of our downtown space. Because of our incremental expansion, we never had an opportunity to lay out our space in a thoughtful way. I just expanded in any way I could.
Our 2024 relocation gave me a chance to redesign workflow in a way that's logical and thoughtful. And MUCH more efficient.
The open house brought customers, supporters and super-fans from Chicago, Indiana and northern Wisconsin. I'd like to thank the City Of Stoughton for their support. Early in our quest for a new space our city's mayor bluntly stated that Stoughton wanted to keep us in town. He made good on this by helping us find the perfect space right on hwy 51.
The new space is an important turning point for us. Please follow along and we'll keep you posted on our continued growth and expansion through the year.
More and more schools are adding our Metal 3D technology to their curriculum. More research organizations are publishing papers, and our custom materials keep getting more interesting.
What's next:
1. 3D printable Moon Dust Simulant (out in a week or two).
2. 3D Printable Super Abrasives
3. First project for the International Space Station! (fffMetal doesn't require gravity, it's a no-brainer.)
More to come,
-Brad

I first met Professor Saniya LeBlanc many years ago at a Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Seminar in Germany, where she presented on 3D printed thermoelectric materials.
Now her research team at George Washington University and her collaborator, Professor Jae Sung Son of POSTECH, have successfully developed a new geometry for thermoelectric materials -- previously confined to cuboid shapes -- through geometric design and 3D printing processes. This new design significantly enhances power generation efficiency.
This groundbreaking technology improves the efficiency of thermoelectric materials, which are key in converting waste heat into electricity, by altering their geometry to resemble an hourglass. Unlike previous research that solely depended on the material properties of thermoelectric substances, this new approach is expected to have widespread applications in thermoelectric power generation.
So honored to have Saniya as a colleague at George Washington University and to also have had her as a contributor to our edited book (P.M. Norris and L. Friedersdorf, Editors) “Women in Nanotechnology – Contributions from the Atomic Level and Up,” part of the Springer Series on Women in Engineering and Science. DOI: 10.1007/9783-030-19951-7, 2019.

Amanda Taylor and Michael Clark had a great time at the 2024 Microfluidics Consortium meeting in Boston. Here, they were able to tour Northeastern University's Multiscale Thermal Fluidics Laboratory, Boston University's Microfluidics CIDAR Lab, and Nano Dimension's Fabrica facility. They enjoyed various academic and industry presentations, a panel discussion with microfluidic industry veterans, and a networking event at MIT. Clark sees significant potential for 3D printing to provide molds and printers to large US universities. Developing a clear bio-material could further enable true 3D microfluidics for "organ on a chip" applications.
