The "Mission Homefront" campaign asserts that it is time for the Defence leadership, from the minister to the Defence service heads, to address the issue of housing and conditions and take decisive and quantifiable action, as it is what the NZDF's service people deserve. Reflecting on the promises made by successive ministers and Defence heads since 1990 is not just an exercise in history but a stark reminder of the commitments made to our NZDF personnel. The 1990 Quigley report set the stage for transformation within the Defence Force, which should have sustained conditions of service and support for our dedicated service members. Instead, according to evidence collected by Erin Speedy, Defence housing, barracks, and service conditions have progressively deteriorated. As the Defence Force confronts economic, retention, and recruiting challenges, the question arises: where are the tangible improvements promised through subsequent reviews, restructures, and reorganisations over the past decades? The urgent and undeniable need for "Mission Homefront" underscores a critical gap between promises made and outcomes achieved. More concerted efforts are necessary to ensure that our NZDF personnel receive and genuinely experience the support and conditions they deserve. The goal is for "Mission Homefront" to become unnecessary, with the NZDF resuming its mantle as a people-oriented organisation. Best of luck to the "Mission Homefront" team.
Today I officially launch Mission Homefront 🏡 This campaign aims to give a voice to our Defence Force members and raise awareness about their dire conditions. It’s a national disgrace that we must address. We need an independent inquiry into housing and conditions, alongside cross-party political support to tie Defence investment to GDP, ending the boom and bust cycles that has left personnel and whānau literally out in the cold for too many years. Our Defence Force responds to natural disasters and crises, from Cyclones to earthquakes and floods, volcanic eruptions, major fires, evacuating citizens from foreign countries and the list goes on for our own backyard, let alone across the Pacific and globally. Personnel and their families sacrifice the most for this country, the least they deserve is to be treated with dignity and respect. Our mission is simple: stronger foundations make stronger forces 💪 The foundations of any organisation are its people. Ensuring they have the support, resources, and fair treatment they deserve isn't just about better conditions—it's about building a more resilient and effective Defence Force for Aotearoa. Follow us to hear the stories from our personnel and witness their daily reality. And if you are a builder or know of any near bases who would be keen to help out and conduct independent healthy homes inspections for some whānau who cannot afford them themselves, please get in touch 👷♂️ Finally, a massive thank you to everyone who has been in my corner through this journey so far - for the guidance and advice, for the words of support when the self doubt and fear sneak in; from those of all ranks within the organisation, those who have left because of the conditions and those committed to change (you all know who you are!!). #MissionHomeFront #StrongerFoundations #StrongerForces #DefendingOurHomefront #BetterConditions #WelfareMatters #BackOurForces Find MissionHomefront_NZ on Instagram, and Facebook https://lnkd.in/gExuiDvD

Institutional organizations once again play a crucial role in humanitarian and rescue operations, this time in response to the recent climate disaster in Valencia, Spain. Among the resources mobilized for this relief VANGUARD MARINE is proud to contribute with some of its RIB units owned and operated by the “Grupo Especial de Actividades Subacuáticas de la Guardia Civil (GEAS)”, which, as shown in the photograph, have proven essential for the success of the rescue operations. The functionality of VANGUARD boats stands out in emergency situations, demonstrating their capability to withstand adverse conditions and provide aid to affected populations. The contribution of the Guardia Civil with VANGUARD boats to the rescue efforts in Valencia once again highlights the positive impact that nautical technology and innovation can bring to crisis situations, reflecting the company's commitment to supporting rescue missions worldwide. https://lnkd.in/ejuui6Et Our team acquired satellite imagery of Village de Dieu, the strong hold of the gang Baz 5 Segond, led by Johnson André aka “Izo 5Segond”. We further cross-referenced our satellite images with social media activity from gang members, offering a groundbreaking perspective on their operations in Port-au-Prince. This dual approach highlights the gang's locations and technological capabilities, underscoring the importance of targeted analysis in tackling Haiti's security challenges. Our findings pave the way for strategic operations to disrupt gang influence and enhance community safety.

Great to read about this important work being done by SDI. (Slum Dwellers International)'s Sierra Leone affiliate, in partnership with the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team--working with slum dweller leaders to put Monrovia's slums on the map. Community-driven slum mapping is such a critical step in ensuring the most vulnerable communities are able to access the resources, infrastructure, and services they need to build true resilience. There is tremendous potential for diverse stakeholders, including our team at Build Change, to work with communities and use this powerful data to increase access to resilient housing at scale in a way that is relevant and affordable to the communities! #ResilientHousing #ResilientCities #HousingJustice https://bloom.bg/3Wjl4DM

🔥There are 5 National Prepared Levels. Today we at #4: “National resources are heavily committed. National mobilization trends affect all geographic areas and regularly occur over larger distances. National priorities govern resources of all types. Heavy demand on inactive/low activity geographic areas for available resources.” #WildlandFire #FirePreparedness #NationalPreparedness #FireSafety #FireSeason #Firefighters #EmergencyPreparedness #WildfireAwareness #CommunityResilience #FireResponse https://lnkd.in/eshr5vBE

Harnessing Canine Expertise with Search Cameras in Earthquake Disasters. The importance of swift and effective search and rescue operations cannot be overstated in the wake of a devastating earthquake. Lives hang in the balance and every second counts. Arguably the two best tools for such an operation are search and rescue cameras and specially trained canines which stand out as indispensable assets. Together, they form a powerful duo that significantly enhances the efficiency and success of post-earthquake recovery efforts. https://buff.ly/4buvc3k #searchandrescue #Rescue #FireRescue #emergencyresponse #firstresponse #firetresponders

When the shaking stops after a decent earthquake, people often take a moment to think about how they can be better prepared for the next one. Developed through agency VML our 'After Quake Double Take' campaign recently picked up a silver medal for "best use of data" at the Commercial Communications Council's Beacon Awards, recognising our innovative use of data to enhance community resilience. We use this small window of opportunity after a quake to roll out the campaign, encouraging people to take 5 easy actions to make their homes safer. GeoNet data is used to determine where the shaking was felt most intensely across the motu, and the campaign is delivered in that area in the week or two that follows. Thanks to the data GeoNet provides, these important preparedness messages have reached thousands of Kiwis, at a time when they are more likely to take action. https://lnkd.in/diZ2X_HQ
