Data Cubes will feature as a community session at the IGARSS conference in Brisbane next August. Attendees can nominate the session when putting in papers ('CCS48'). More good news, papers can be full papers, simple abstracts, or recent publications. Given the impact that EO data cubes are having in Africa (#DEAfrica), Brazil, Australia (#DEAustralia), Switzerland (Swiss Data Cube) and across the globe, and how they are empowering people and enabling remote sensing science, this session is a great opportunity to bring this growing community together!

🇪🇺 AI & Data Driven Innovation   As of June 9th, new #EU rules on making more public #datasets available for reuse have started applying. These so-called ‘high-value datasets' contain information on six thematic areas laid out in the Open Data Directive: geospatial, earth observation and environment, meteorological, statistics, companies and mobility. The most extensive resource for accessing open data is the official portal for European data (data.europa.eu). I said the mindset and the protective nature of human beings need to change when it comes to data. The benefits derived from opening up and sharing more is still not well understood, lah. We need to work harder!

For a while I have been meaning to give a shout out to Sweden’s Rikstermbanken – a state funded repository of terminology. It can trace its origins back to the 1930’s when radio technology was coming to Sweden and terms in Swedish had to be quickly standardized so the technology could be assimilated by the country. Available upon request within secure data environment CBS: The new multigenerational database of the Netherlands (1883-2021), the linkage between HSN (IISG) and SSD (Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek). With support of ODISSEI - Open Data Infrastructure for Social Science and Economic Innovations we were able to link data on historical generations to the contemporary ones, a first step in explaining the stacking of inequalities across generations.
