🌟 Empowering Future Generations through Pre-Vocational Training! 🌟 In today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world, preparing young minds early is essential. Pre-vocational training for secondary school students is a crucial step in providing them with the knowledge and skills to make informed career choices. Initiatives like those by the National Vocational & Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) are helping to shape this pathway for young learners, equipping them with an understanding of technical fields and career opportunities. Through pre-vocational training, students can: 🔹 Build a Strong Foundation in Technology: Learning about basic technical concepts at a young age helps students grasp the “how” and “why” behind the tools they use, laying the groundwork for advanced skills. 🔹 Discover Career Pathways: Exposure to different vocational fields, such as mechanics, digital technology, and healthcare, allows students to explore potential career paths and better understand their own interests. 🔹 Boost Confidence and Readiness: Pre-vocational training helps students recognize their unique strengths, making them more confident in navigating their educational and career journeys. 🔹 Foster Lifelong Learning: By engaging with practical skills, students are encouraged to view learning as a continuous process, essential for adapting to the future world of work. The pre-vocational training helps to create a skilled youth, prepared to contribute to our nation’s economic and social development. This early training gives students a strong start, inspiring them to dream big and prepare for diverse, rewarding careers. Let’s continue to support and promote initiatives like these that bridge education and practical skills for a brighter future! #PreVocationalTraining #YouthEmpowerment #NAVTTC #SkillDevelopment #FutureReady

The Verizon Innovative Learning Schools program’s focus on extensive training for coaches and their work with teachers has produced intended results, like enhanced student engagement and increased technology proficiency among participating teachers. But leaders began to notice some unexpected results as well—teachers and coaches in participating schools experienced both improved job satisfaction and increased opportunities for career advancement. Our new white paper investigates these unintended impacts and suggests why these effects have significance beyond the individual coaches and teachers. https://bit.ly/3UGzJbl #VerizonInnovativeLearning #dpvils

We aren't responsible for the indoctrination we embraced, that we were told was an education. However, we are responsible for removing the malware from our operating systems once we're aware. The vast majority of us are socially programmed to serve by adopting a number of tactics designed to make us crave external validation. Here's a Gold Star 🌟 and praise for being obedient but leave the classroom for demonstrating critical thinking by asking too many questions 🚪 Who decides what asking too many qualifying questions looks like? Isn't education the act of nurturing what is there to benefit the student? Not for the "educational system", no it isn't The educational system is designed to programme an assembly line of obedient employees, who don't think critically for themselves. We're then bombarded with a myriad of propaganda that further conditions us to think "properly". Just like when in 2020 we were told it's irresponsible to observe our inalienable rights around medical decisions. Once hindsight became 20:20 broadcasters like Chris Cuomo admitted they were lied to and today he takes the same medication daily that he lambasted Joe Rogan for taking. It's most important that we think critically as men, when we become parents because our children learn best from observation not by listening. One of the most important things we left in the old world, as men of African origin is rites of passage. A system where we prove ourselves to be socially necessary and useful in service. We do have a handful of rites of passage organisations in London and all other cities around the UK but most of us aren't aware of them and we don't adopt it as a standard practice, which is evident when we look at the behaviour of generations. So at this point, it's not only pertinent to systemise rites of passage but to make it available to all ages. Exposure leads to expansion and once aware, even if we make occasional incremental progress it's better than no progress. The choice to #Unlearn & #Relearn is based on self preservation and the clearest demonstration that we know what we deserve The perception of our lives is irrelevant because our experience far outweighs what anybody thinks. When we make that investment in ourselves, the benefits are far wider reaching than our own progressive matriculation because we're better enabled to serve. #SigmaCarta

How being vulnerable can go against student success I have, over the last two weeks, been thinking about why people stop asking for help. This took me back to a talk presented by Prof Paul Prinsloo at a UNESCO Chair on Open Distance Learning (ODL) webinar, when the world was still grappling with the covid-19 pandemic and it's rippling effects. The presentation comes to mind because, in all my years of working in research, it remains the most humane approach to thinking about student support. A useful tool in rationalizing my experience, now that I find myself in the position of a vulnerable student. According to Prinsloo, "much of the research on student success or failure, retention or attrition, focuses on what students have, don’t have, what students need to do, in order to be successful. We measure their readiness, their competencies or lack of the necessary skills and understandings. We blame them for not trying hard enough. We advise them to have a growth-mind set and we measure their resilience and grit. We hardly ever consider their vulnerabilities in terms of the ecosystem." I'm generally hyperindependent, and this is something I've had to reevaluate in the last few months because I just did not have the resources that had, in all my years as a student, allowed me to do what I needed to do without having to ask for help. I've come to experience asking for help, even when you do everything possible to show that you're worth the support, to be a deeply dehumanizing process. You're stripped bare in front of a room full of strangers, each one asking you why you think you're deserving, how your case is unique. Each time you have to answer that question, you have to work extra hard to keep believing that you are not defined by where you find yourself in that moment. Situational vulnerability is maddening to the person experiencing it. Half the time you're checking if you're head is still screwed on right because of the amount of things that need your attention but you have no autonomy over. Having to go through this process of drawing on nuances to elaborate on the layeredness of your vulnerability only makes it worse, especially when there's no guarantee that the help will come. "If we share our shame story with the wrong person," Brené Brown writes, "they can easily become one more piece of flying debris in an already dangerous storm." To avoid this, Prinsloo highlights the importance of understanding the types and layeredness of the experiences that students go through, and in doing this to not make their vulnerabilities worse, to try to minimise them wherever possible, and to put measures in place that allow for equity. For many students, success means bracing the storm, silently plastering over the systemic injustices in the ecosystem and plunging head-first into debt. Which I feel defeats the purpose, produces the inverse of why we set out in higher education to begin with... to better our lives and those of the people around us.

Elevating Transfer Practices: Technology and Collaboration in Higher Education Dr. Seth Marc Kamen and Heather Adams wrote an excellent article on improving transfer processes through collaboration. AcademyOne, Inc. is proud to partner globally in the learning-to-earning movement as a provider of technology and training solutions. Here's what we've learned over 20 years of building transfer success with our partners. Transfer-Specific Training Training is fundamental to any transfer improvement project. We offer comprehensive transfer-related best practices and training content developed through numerous state-level and institutional projects. We're happy to share those whether you are a current partner of AcademyOne or not. Strengthening Transfer Networks Institutional collaboration unlocks tremendous learner benefits. Course-sharing and cross-registration can revolutionize the educational marketplace. With improving interoperability between student systems, we can now facilitate unprecedented collaboration among affinity groups of institutions. Integrating Transfer Expertise It's encouraging to see states, systems, and institutions prioritizing deep credit transfer knowledge in their hiring and strategic planning Advocating for Resources Improvements at the level Seth and Heather outline require significant resources and high-level administrative prioritization. We're seeing positive trends in this direction, but states and institutions must be cautious about reinventing the wheel. Building national transfer platforms without addressing fundamental interoperability issues creates disillusionment when grant funding inevitably expires. #nomoresilos Cross-Institutional Collaboration We're committed to helping institutions assess their transfer practice maturity and providing hands-on experience with sophisticated transfer tools. Join us in elevating the transfer profession and equipping dedicated professionals with the skills to support student success! #HigherEducation #TransferStudents #ProfessionalDevelopment #AcademyOne
