A career in policing starts with self-belief. The Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI), a summer employment program for 15 to 18 year-olds, can instill a foundational sense of confidence, while familiarizing young people with what working in law enforcement is really like. Offered in collaboration with the Ontario Government | Gouvernement de l’Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, and hosted at the Community Safety Village of York Region, the program encourages youth to work together to support York Regional Police’s organizational and community initiatives and develop skills through structured activities and mentorship. A visitor levy will impact on residential experiences for those under 18s. How many can remember visiting Llangrannog with school or going on Scout or Guide camp somewhere in Wales? As Area Lead Volunteer for Cardiff and Vale, I am very concerned about how this will change the balanced programme we are able to offer our Scouts and also the Scouts visiting Wales from the other nations and from abroad. Scout Groups don’t charge or they try to keep costs to a minimum if using their own Scout Halls and night’s away in campsites, fields and recognised activity centres are always run as not for profit to keep the financial impact on families as low as possible. In the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act, there is a commitment to make people healthier but by adding an additional charge and an administration burden on the Scouting volunteers and the supporters of Scouting, we will reduce the opportunity for our young people to have the overnight experience where they can develop so many skills. In the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child we are required to ensure children participate and have a say in the things that affect them. I wonder how many children have been part of the Welsh Government consultation and understand that this visitor levy could impact their adventure experience. The Visitor Levy is worrying. Please consider writing to your local MS to ask for their support to raise the impact this will have on our young people and our future generations.

I think it would be helpful if more of us followed a code of conduct. The Rotarian Code of Conduct provides a framework for ethical behavior that all Rotarians can use. As part of Rotary’s guiding principles and the Avenues of Service, Vocational Service calls on Rotarians to empower others by using their skills and expertise to address community needs and help others discover new professional opportunities and interests. The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular to encourage and foster: FIRST - The development of acquintance as an opportunity for service. SECOND - High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarians's occupation an an opportunity to serve society. THIRD - The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business and community life. FOURTH - The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. Here is a Four Way Test of the things we think, say and do. 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

#Working with #youth is very #exciting and certainly never a dull moment. While for most completing school it's imperative to have a job as most homes need the additional #income. Once the youth find #jobopportunities more than often they get into a comfort zone and find it tough to #furthereducate themselves. This is a cycle I am all to familiar with myself. I enjoy our 121 sessions to sit and gain their insight as to why they working, what is the #shorttermplan, #longtermplan and my favourite when we establish a #personaldevelopmentplan specific for the #individual. One youth really really wants to be a firefighter. His #maingoal is to work to #help the #family for next 18months and in this time get ready to sign up for Firefighter. The group chuckled as we in a call center right. Told the team to hang on we open to hear from each one. He was shy and i assured him a session later to discuss more. Later on he opened up, his heart was made up 4yrs ago when a shack in his area was alight. He saved an elderly man and his dog, the firefighters gave him a special thanks as the #firetruck couldnt reach in time. He never forgot that feeling of #fulfillment and kept dreaming about being a firefighter. He doesnt know any firefighters and wouldnt know where to begin to get more #information. He recently got access to a smart device and needed support to navigate. We spent time searching and found the #Firefighteropenday and the Volunteer Wildfire Services, they hosting a fundraiser this Sunday https://lnkd.in/erxhMkpF He was ecstatic and gave me #biggesthug ever. He was super chuffed that I acknowledged his #dream #preciousmoment 100% #commitment #motivation to #KPIs in the timeframes and with excellent customer care. His going to #rescue those customers, put out all the #escalations and take #bonus home every month #livehisbestlife Taking the time to understand their why, then work out when they plan, to do what they truelly want to do and how, makes a high impact. #BPOIndustry has been a lifeline for most and whilst each one is #happy to be #employed let's never forget the #dreams and #aspirations. #leaders #engage #connect #knowtheirwhy #listentounderstand #settingexpectations #coaching #121matters #lovewhatwedo #aspiretoinspire #howtotrainafirefighter It's #International #FirefighterDay 04 May 2024. The AAG has joined its partners at the Coalition for Outdoor Renaming & Education (CORE), signing onto its letter urging Secretary Deb Haaland to implement the recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Reconciliation in Place Names (ACRPN). CORE commended the leadership exhibited by the ACRPN and the Secretary. CORE also calls for the USGS Board on Geographic Names to enact the ACRPN's recommendations for creating greater transparency in review processes and frameworks. The AAG and its partners are confident that future work on this issue will move further toward a greater vision of American places for all. In this interactive workshop, participants will be introduced to a set of tools to help them engage in reflective practice and intercultural communication to create inclusive excellence in work and community environments. Participants will engage in experiential exercises using dialogue and working with The Principles for How We Treat Each Other and will be introduced to the idea of unconscious bias and be given opportunities in a safe setting to temporarily put aside their own perspectives and listen non-judgmentally to the experiences of others. With these new tools in hand, participants will improve their interpersonal relationships, their work environment, and their communities and develop practices of respect and community building.
