Nourish Health Stores team members came to the wonderful Dunsany Castle Rewilding Project with Irish Trees Limited Trees to learn more about the impact of their ongoing Tree Planting commitment, the impact it is having on biodiversity, and also help with some conservation work, removing the invasive Cherry Laurel from one of the many ancient woodlands. Blessed with a dry day, loads of fun, laughter, nature education and real impact. Well Done Nourish. https://lnkd.in/e4BEfYNE #Nourish #bethedifference #positiveimpact #conservation #team #community

BirdLife International BirdLife South Africa Mark Anderson I need a discussion on #FLYWAYS: The protection of such species flyways, especially the avian category, is critical. We trust you must have discussed these. My concern is Birds navigate along more or less regular routes when they migrate. In North America, these “avian superhighways” are generally grouped as the Atlantic, Mississippi, Central, and Pacific Flyways. Well, the shortest is the Central Asian Flyway for Asia. Across Africa, the trans-antlantic is the longest as we recieve birds from Europe to Cape Town. There are increasingly more human activities, especially unregulated fishing along this flyway that affect both roosting, nesting & feeding sites. I would be more ecstatic to read new resolutions on protection of flyways from mushrooming human activities, especially at the coast lines.

CONSERVATION CONVERSATION WITH BIRDLIFE SOUTH AFRICA 🇿🇦 ❤️ Today at 19h00 (SAST) on Conservation Conversations, join #Mike_Buckham Chairman of the Cape Bird Club, and Cliff Dorse, Head of the Conservation Services Unit in the City of Cape Town's Biodiversity Management Branch. In this webinar, Mike and Cliff will speak on the events that transpired when the Cape Bird Club celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2023. The duo decided to run a Birding Big Year within the boundaries of the City of Cape Town to encourage birding in the city as well as to assist the city in gathering data on bird distribution to support the expansion of conservation areas in the city. The challenge created a lot of enthusiasm within the birding community, resulting in many birders enjoying the city's birds during 2023. They will share some of the ideas behind the challenge, as well as photos, statistics, and fun moments from the year. This is possible under the visionary leadership of Mark Anderson

Nature's Best Hope “Tallamy lays out all you need to know to participate in one of the great conservation projects of our time. Read it and get started!” —Elizabeth Kolbert, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Sixth Extinction Douglas W. Tallamy’s first book, Bringing Nature Home, awakened thousands of readers to an urgent situation: wildlife populations are in decline because the native plants they depend on are fast disappearing. His solution? Plant more natives. In this new book, Tallamy takes the next step and outlines his vision for a grassroots approach to conservation. Nature’s Best Hope shows how homeowners everywhere can turn their yards into conservation corridors that provide wildlife habitats. Because this approach relies on the initiatives of private individuals, it is immune from the whims of government policy. Even more important, it’s practical, effective, and easy—you will walk away with specific suggestions you can incorporate into your own yard. If you’re concerned about doing something good for the environment, Nature’s Best Hope is the blueprint you need. By acting now, you can help preserve our precious wildlife—and the planet—for future generations. #BookRecommendation #GoodReads #Books #ReadingList #BookCommunity #BookLovers #Bookworm #NowReading #BookClub #Inspiration #Motivation #GrowthMindset #LifelongLearning #ThoughtProvoking #MustRead #BookOfTheDay #WeekendReads #PageTurner #TopPicks https://lnkd.in/gsUgQQUE

Did you know? The UK's woodlands are home to a stunning butterfly with a hidden secret! The Silver-washed Fritillary, with its vibrant orange wings and black spots, might look familiar. But take a peek underneath, and you'll discover its namesake - shimmering silver streaks across its hindwings! Sadly this species, like most butterflies faces a loss of its preferred habitat and we may well see their numbers decline. Part of Biodiversity UK's project strategy is to create or support the creation of habitats for several species including the Silver-Washed Fritillary. Ensuring they continue to grace our woodlands. Silver-washed fritillaries live in large broadleaved woodlands (especially oak woodlands) and feed on Bramble and other flowers in sunny glades and rides. The caterpillars feed on violets, particularly common dog-violet. That's why we're working in partnership with Forest of Flowers to plant Dog Violets, wherever possible. You can help us do this by becoming a supporter! #SilverWashedFritillary #Conservation

🛑 "Every habitat is struggling! It's time to prioritize ecosystem restoration over endless paperwork!" Catherine Mallia MASc, our Education Manager at Reptile Encounters, shares her powerful perspective on the critical issue of Red Tape vs. Rescue. In this eye-opening article, Cat delves into the complex challenges of conservation, spotlighting the inspiring work of Dr. Emily Scicluna, who successfully had Fat-tailed Dunnarts listed as a threatened species through her PhD research. While this is a significant victory, Cat raises a crucial point—we can’t fight for every species this way. It's time to rethink our approach to conservation and streamline efforts to protect our precious ecosystems before it's too late. 🌿🐾 https://lnkd.in/gjmVN-2C #Conservation #WildlifeRescue #EcosystemRestoration #EnvironmentalProtection #ReptileEncounters

Happy World Chimpanzee Day! Today, we celebrate the incredible chimpanzees and their significance to our planet. As we marvel at their capabilities, let us also reflect on our responsibility to protect them and raise awareness about the importance of their conservation. Chimpanzees are endangered, with only a few numbers of species left in the wild. WABiLED is working with partners in the landscapes to support the implementation of the Regional Action Plan for the Conservation of the Western Chimpanzee. This will ensure coordinated efforts in Chimpanzee conservation and enhance the protection and management of their habitat. Together, we can ensure a brighter future for chimpanzees. What action will you take today to make a difference? #ChimpanzeeConservation #SaveTheChimps #GetInvolved #EndangeredSpecies

🌍What does it mean to decolonize our relationship with the land? 🌱 “Up to 22 percent of the global lands owned, occupied, or used by Indigenous peoples contain an estimated 80 percent of global biodiversity.” This makes it clear: successful conservation requires integrating Indigenous Knowledge, wisdom passed down over thousands of years. Indigenous Peoples have long been the stewards of these lands, shaping the ecosystems we depend on today. This article I authored highlights the vital role of Indigenous Knowledge in modern conservation, reminding us that honoring this wisdom is key to protecting the planet for future generations.
