Bar armour ? Remember the cages that our ASLAVs sprouted in the MEAO. They added a tonne of weight to the hull, maybe didn’t do much for the suspension, but they probably helped. Did they ever take a hit in combat ? Any kind of appliqué armour system is a pain in the ass :) You have to design it to be as generic as possible so you can swap it from vehicle to vehicle. You have to maintain it. You have to store it. You have to transport it. You can’t fit it before operations because it makes everything bigger and then nothing fits on trailers or aircraft or whatever. It’s also like flat pack furniture - there is always on bolt missing ! The ADF bought some skirt ERA for the first Abrams but not sure if this is collecting dust in a shed somewhere. (Side bar question - can you even fly ERA in a transport aircraft ?) Does the old ERA fit on the new SEPv3 platforms ? If we have kit in our ORBAT that need significant “after market” enhancements to keep them survivable…we either need better ways of managing our extemporised up-armoured solutions OR we need better protective systems.

STREET SCENE SYSTEM OF TRAINING (SSST) 👉 SSST Level 6 - Street Clearance Procedures - Pistol 👉 Whether you are a LEO dealing with an Active Shooter or a small military team, extracting an asset, one of the problems you’ll face in a Street environment, is blind spots - behind vehicles, walls, open doorways, corners, windows - anywhere that you cannot visually “clear” before you pass it. 👉 It is made all the more worse, if we do not have the real estate to take wide angles, in order to see things quicker and from a greater distance. 👉 If we only have a narrow-angle option, we can assume that no-one is there, and run the risk of being gun-grabbed, at best…or, at worst, being engaged by a threat, at zero distance. Or….. 👉 We can reduce the risk of both, to a more manageable level, and manipulate the pistol accordingly.
