Vendor risk management is about more than just dollars and cents. It’s also about ethics. When evaluating vendors, financial stability and operational efficiency are important, but so are things like human rights, fair labor practices, and environmental sustainability. This is where ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) factors come into play. They add another layer to your vendor assessments, making sure you’re partnering with organizations that align with responsible business practiceBy doing this, you’re not only protecting your organization from reputational risks, but you’re also contributing to a more sustainable and ethical future. It’s a win-win. So, when you think about your own vendor partnerships, what ethical considerations stand out to you? Do you prioritize ESG factors in your risk management strategy? I’d love to hear your thoughts below. #VendorRiskManagement #ESG #Sustainability #Ethics #ResponsibleBusiness #RiskMitigation #VendorManagement

Interesting perspective from BSR: In today's complex environment, traditional risk management tools often fall short in addressing interconnected issues like climate change, geopolitics, and socio-economic disparities. Emerging sustainability regulations present a unique opportunity to rethink corporate decision-making. The EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) are driving greater integration between sustainability and risk management practices. This alignment is essential for tackling cross-cutting challenges strategically. To navigate this transition successfully, companies should integrate and align internal approaches, focus on decision quality by using timely information from sustainability assessments, and leverage outside-in perspectives to overcome biases and enhance decision-making. By embracing these principles, businesses can turn regulatory requirements into opportunities, making informed choices that promote sustainability and resilience in an uncertain world. 🌟 #Sustainability #RiskManagement #CorporateResponsibility #StrategicDecisionMaking #CSRD #CSDDD

As TPRM continues to evolve, one of the most pressing concerns for organizations today is integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations into their TPRM strategies. ESG frameworks have rapidly transitioned from a niche interest to a critical risk management component, driving supply chain transparency and accountability. For TPRM professionals, understanding and utilizing the right ESG frameworks can be a game-changer, helping to mitigate risks, enhance stakeholder trust, and contribute to sustainable business practices. These frameworks provide a blueprint for measuring and reporting a company's sustainability and ethical impact. Developed by various organizations, including NGOs, governments, and business groups, ESG frameworks outline the controls companies should establish, the metrics to track, the reporting format, and the frequency of disclosures. The integration of ESG considerations into third-party risk management is no longer optional. For TPRM professionals, ESG reporting and monitoring is crucial because it provides a holistic view of the risks associated with third-party relationships. These risks can range from environmental concerns, such as a supplier’s carbon footprint, to social issues, like labor practices in the supply chain, and governance challenges, including ethical business conduct. By incorporating ESG frameworks into TPRM, organizations can identify and mitigate these risks, ensuring that their third-party relationships align with their broader sustainability goals and don’t invite reputational concerns. There are several widely recognized ESG reporting frameworks, each with strengths and focus areas. These frameworks provide the guidelines and metrics for assessing and managing ESG risks within your third-party network. Here’s a closer look at some of the most common ones: 🥅 Benchmark frameworks such as the CDP and the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards 🙋 Voluntary frameworks, including the GRI and TCFD 🌱 Regulatory ESG frameworks such as the CSRD, ISO 26000, and Australia's National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER): NGER Given the many options available, choosing the appropriate ESG framework for your organization requires a strategic and informed approach. The right framework will align with your organization's overall objectives and enhance your ability to manage the ESG risks inherent in your third-party relationships. Just under three weeks until our exciting collaborative IRM event between the Risk & Complexity SIG and the Environmental & Social Governance SIG. We will be exploring how complex systems thinking can benefit risk professionals to understand the context of modern slavery especially if we are intent on eradicating this unethical practice. Following a presentation from ESG Group Founder and Chair, Anita Punwani, we will be opening up the discussion to consider this global issue as a complex matter which we, as risk professionals, are in a pivotal position to support purpose-driven organisations to eliminate across global supply chains. Join us! The IRM ESG Group has contributed to the upcoming "IRM Risk & Complexity Good Practice Guidelines" and would like to thank Andrew Wallis OBE, CEO of Unseen, and Dr Bethany Jackson, University of Nottingham, and Tessa Gough-Allen, ESG and Human Rights expert, for their contribution to the development of original thought leadership in Environmental & Social Governance. https://lnkd.in/esP_S4Q5 #riskmanagement #complexity #ESG #IRM Anita Punwani 🌍Andrew Allen Deepak Mistry.
